Are the 100% new AP watch supposed to have tape wrapped around the whole thing?

I just tried two AP watches at a grey dealer shop, but I noted one of them did not have any tape on it. Is this suspicious?

A watch can be unworn if the tape is removed and some sites sell fake original sticker sets for certain brands. So this is not the most reliable way to determine it. If the watch is with a grey your best guess is to see when the watch was originally sold and the condition its in.

Thanks for your info. I would just rather buy something with tape on it but I know what you meant.

Thanks again.

A new AP these days come with the bezel protector and then sealed with transparent shrink wrap all over and then the tape on the bracelets are blue - that is true blue untouched brand new. However, sometimes they remove it- hard to tell its unworn unless you loupe the clasp, sides to make sure no scratches.

If it’s from a grey, presumably it depends on the circumstances in which they purchased the watch. If they got it out the back door from an AD then fair enough, it’s more likely to still be taped up. If someone bought it then flipped straight to the grey same day, the stickers were probably removed at purchase. I think either would be considered a new watch by most buyers. Each to their own but if you trust the dealer (which shouldn’t be based on whether they have tape on their watches) then I wouldn’t concern yourself with this.

If you buy the watch from display show cases, they already took the tape out, but might still have the case cover on, it still called brand new.
