Bluesy Glidelock Issue

I have a bluesy 116613lb that was serviced at RSC in July 2019. In December, a screw in the inside of the glidelock came loose so the glidelock got jammed. In order to fix it, apparently I bent the clasp.

Now the end of the clasp, the small end piece (or receiver of the lock) comes loose. You have to tuck it in each time you close the clasp. Otherwise, no issue.

I sent it to RSC, hoping they could replace on screw and tighten the end of the clasp. They said it needs a WHOLE new glidelock for $1500. I asked if they could come down at all and they said $1275.

Should I just bite the bullet and fix it? Or should I look for a private watch shop to fix it?

Also, I dropped it off at an AD, does work like this count towards building a relationship at all?

Send it to Rollieworks or some other famous guys that can fix the bracelet or who do bracelet restore.

100% they can fix it and it will only cost a few hundred.

Don’t believe this would count as building your relationship with an AD. You would need to buy something sadly. Definitely have someone like rolliworks look at it.

It can be fixed as you describe it. Get the watch back and send it to one of the watch repair services that are praised here.

I'm more surprised that the RSC was willing to basically negotiate on price. I'll have to remember this for the future.

I’d imagine a non-RSC solution being significantly cheaper. I’m a bit surprised they negotiated on price, were you able to do that because they recently worked on the watch?

I would get it repaired by a trusted repair firm. If you still do not like it you can always later get the clasp replaced at Rolex.

Yes, the watch is less than 5 years old and had a RSC service in July, so I argued it should be under warranty. They said warranty only covers the movement, but offered me a slight discount.

Rolliworks said that they could look at it, but no parts for the glidelock are available separately. So at this point, it's a crap shoot. I could get the watch returned, lose the slight discount, send to Rolliworks and maybe they could fix and maybe not.

I'm leaning towards getting it returned though thanks to comments here.

I don't have the original warranty card. It's a sunburst dial Bluesy 116613, so I believe that came out in 2015 or 2016, so theoretically should maybe be covered? And the service warranty does not cover damage to bracelets or clasps. Just movement.

On the other hand, I damaged it when the screw came out in the glidelock, so partially my bad :(

Just called the RSC. They said it is just out of original warranty. Manufactured in August of 2014. That's why they gave me a slight discount. I asked for a bit more considering the issue started last year. They'll get back to me tomorrow.

Also, they've had my watch for over 2 months. I think the local AD dropped the ball and never forwarded the quote. I had to call to figure out what was happening. A little upsetting.

I would have the clasp rebuilt. The parts are press fit together and so the fix appears to be an easy one.

Rolliworks is in the SF area and they specialize in bracelet repairs.

Same thing happened to me but i didnt bend the clasp. I used light tension moving the link to work the screw back in until i could get it out. Then i secured the link with nail polish at the tip.

I think this happened as a result of it moving a ton when surfing at the beach. Thank the lord it was where the glidelock was or i could have lost the watch.

I think it is easily fixed by someone who knows how. Bent or not. Rolex just dont do that type of work.

We have not heard many Of these clasp failures as you’re describing before here. Bad luck.

Have Rolex replace the glidelock and move on, especially since there are no parts for it and Rolliworks didn't give you a "no problem" vibe in terms of the repair. Good move calling them first and getting the reality of their capabilities in this specific situation so you can make an educated decision.

Is RSC taking you for a ride? Manufacture date is irrelevant. The warranty starts when its sold. I would try to dig into the facts a little more. Maybe get from RSC what shop sold it and then call the shop directly to find out when it was sold.

Also, see if RSC will sell you the clasp and install it, and give you the old one back. You can def sell the old one to make up for a $1500 clasp. If RSC won't do that, then talk to Rollieworks or anyone with a parts account about getting a new glidelock but keeping the old one.

This would not be a warranty issue, which is for manufacturing defects.

Not making sure the screws are tight, and damaging a clasp while attempting your own repairs is far from a warranty issue.
