The one and only.

Hey everyone

I’m looking to buy a Rolex men’s watch and it’ll be my only watch. Regardless the price, which Rolex you’ll recommend and why?

Thank you all.

GMT Master II is my vote. Perfect all around. Just pick a color combo.

One watch to rule them all?

If you’re going to wear it daily, my vite goes to a submariner, submariner date, or Datejust

Sub or GMT would be my vote in SS. Just hard to come by nowadays if you're looking to pay retail prices.

Very hard to argue against this, these are the classic Rolex models imo.

My preference is a DJ 36 with smooth bezel and oyster bracelet, goes with literally every outfit from shirtless on the beach to a suit and realistically its rugged enough to be a beater as well.

My unpopular opinion - if you want something more sporty than a DJ I think the Yatchmaster is actually nicer than a Sub,GMT, or even Daytona.

A gold sub or a gold Day Date. Gold or white gold so they will look nice enough for formal occasions. Sub is passable for formal and will I think look nicer with wear nicks than Day Dates IMO. The Day Date is definitely good for formal, but I think they don't look as nice when worn extensively. My 2 cents would be to pick the one that fits your life the best.

As a one and only watch I would be hesitant to get stainless steel unless you don't need to go to black tie events at all. To me steel is more for tool watches which makes it tougher for formal events. Steel subs might be passable since they are black and white (I think some can pull them off well). Daytonas IMO are too busy for formal. Again wear what makes sense with your life

Yellow gold day day, your choice of dial. One and done.

Hmm! Tough question?

I suspect that there are a few on this forum who would REALLY struggle, if they had to pick just one!

Submariner? GMT? They’re all good choices, but... they are all big watches, and they are all slightly specialised.

I love my Submariner, but sometimes it’s just too much watch. Not a problem for me as I have others, but if you’re only going to have one, it’s worth thinking about.

Same thing re the GMT, and in either case, do you want those functions?

Personally, I’d start by looking at the Classic “Oyster Perpetual”. It’s a classic for a reason. It’s simple, and elegant, yet very rugged. Everything a Rolex should be. There are a greater range of sizes available than ever before, and a greater choice of dials too.

Rolex have also put all their top end improvements into these models so you’re getting 904L steel in the case, a parachrom mainspring, and chromalight lume, all of which you want, in my opinion!

Maybe look at a 34, 36 and 39 mm and see what suits you. I have a 34mm, which is small by modern standards, but it doesn’t look it in use, and I find that the case and bracelet sort of merge together to make it a very easy wearing watch. I’m wearing it now!

Then look at some different dials. If it’s going to be an only watch, think about plain black or white. I see you are in Dubai. White dials were originally favoured for use in hotter countries as the colour reflected the heat better. Having said that, some of the colours are gorgeous too.

If you can, go and see the actual watches, and try one on. You don’t get the full story by just looking at pictures. You appreciate the subtle curves on the case and the comfort of the bracelet much more in person.

If you want to go one up on the Oyster Perpetual, think about a Datejust, or maybe an Explorer. Only if you want to go bigger, would I think about a Submariner, and only if I really wanted a 24 hour watch would I go for a GMT!

Here’s my Oyster Perpetual 34 in a picture I took for another thread, so ignore the pens! Note that I chose black indices on a white dial for legibility. I’d have chosen black hands too, if they were an option!

When a guy from Dubai says price no regard, I always recommend the same - 116595RBOW.

A good alternative is the 126710CHNR.

If I were to choose a one and only I would strongly consider DJ36, SS smooth/oyster black dial.

sub (no date) due to simplicity, ease of use (no date to reset), and iconic Rolex history!

Depends upon lifestyle, fashion tastes, and wrist size.
Without knowing anything with regard to the factors i listed, i would probably look at a Datejust of some description. There's plenty of options to cover a wide spectrum without too many limitations.

Well if price isn’t important I guess you can pick any model you want. If it’s hard to decide and price is no object buy 10.
