Two tone Rolex are more bling than full gold?!

I have experienced this personally. People comment on the TT subs, TT datejust etc that I have owned in the past but not as much on a full gold watch. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am thinking it is because of the contrast between good and steel? Or perhaps people think a full gold watch looks "fake". Maybe I am crazy?

Just curious if anyone else agrees or has noticed this.

What is your favorite TT watch and let's see a pic to spice this thread up a bit

The datejust 2 got way more looks than the gold sub. But perhaps there is a size difference also.

I think it has to do with the contrast of 2 surface colors.

Which stands out more: a yellow car, or a silver car with a yellow racing stripe down the middle.

Difficult to pick a favourite, but I don’t have the TT Sub anymore so I guess the CHNR won..

I can def understand it being more "bling" to some due to the contrast. A lot of non-WIS probably don't look past gold watches as anything more than Michael Kors, etc.

I definitely agree that is a big factor. I also think that TT Rolex are great value at the moment and you can actually buy them at the AD

think about it.....all of the hot watches can be bought new at AD without too much difficulty including the daytona, submariner, GMT, sea dweller.....and they have so much bling (if you are into that kind of thing). There really is not much downside unless you don't like TT for some reason.

Since it's already posted, my vote for current fave TT is CHNR. Perhaps in age comes wisdom, and eventually it will be an 116613LB

There, you just said it. Lot of people now consider TT to be dated and old fashioned.

Full gold is not something everyone can carry either. Some people are not comfortable with that much bling.

Not judging, just sharing my thoughts. If they work for you then great, enjoy the festive season and potential discounts at AD.

I have always been a TT guy. Some will say it's a stepping stone between SS and PM, but it was always a destination for me. The contrast between gold and steel is perfect. Whether it's more bling or not may be in the eye of the beholder. Anyway, here's a shot of mine.

2 tones are real nice but they aren't more blingy than an all gold watch. Just my humble opinion.

The look of TT watches do catch my eye, and it's probably because of the contrast of SS and gold. If I were to pick, I prefer the rose over the yellow though.

This thread is making me want to trade my deep sea blue for a Two-tone blue submariner or CHNR.

Bluesy was by far the watch that got the most notice. No one ever notices my DD, RG Daytona or RG YM (or any stainless for that matter)

I don't know about more blingy however I can say there are some really attractive TT watches. Frankly as long as a watch has the functions one needs and it appeals to the owner's aesthetics then it shouldn't make a difference from what material it's made.

In close to a year of owning my bluesy, I have only had one comment, and that from a neighbour who is a bit of a WIS. Two tone, full PM or whatever, the vast majority don't notice watches and/or don't care.

I would agree that the TT is more visually engaging than any solid color and thus generates more comments. I think that would be true for any watch to include fashion brands.

I don’t think there is any mental calculation going on whereby people look at solid gold and think “hmm... might be fake I won’t comment.” It wouldn’t even occur to them.

I’ve owned mine for 10 days. A a few guys at work have noticed and said nice watch. I’ve always thought it the sharpest Rolex since the 90’s. Eventually I want a YG one because they’re growing on me. That being said it isn’t flashy unless it’s encrusted in diamonds IMO. I went with TT because I can wear it with a gold buckle or a silver buckle. I liked the versatility, the price and they’ve always been striking to me.

I think you have a point, TT is more visible due to the contrast somehow. Especially bluesy.

On this "nobody notices" your watch, I notice a lot of watches but don't think I have ever commented on a strangers watch. Don't think I've had anyone comment on my watches either. I mean that would just be weird for large parts of Europe I think. Close friends, sure. So nobody commenting does not equal that no-one notice it.

Another thing on TT, I feel with many here that it is an old mans thing somehow. But people born during the 80's or 90's are now starting to wear them and do not associate the same types of stigma that people that grew up during the same period do. Many just think it's a good looking and practical combo. I doubt the Daniel Wellington crowd will buy sea-dwellers or such as their first Rolex, can very well see them buying vintage DJ36 TT though. Soon we might see Sub as an old mans watch a la DJ.

Here is my uneducated opinion.....

A lot of fashion watches are full "gold"....meaning gold plated. Out there is a sea of Invictas and Movados worn by anyone from a teenager on up in the age range. I guess people have been desensitized, or maybe they really don't know how much a solid gold watch costs? They probably stared at Invictas and Movados in the display cases and see them go for less than a 1000 dollars, so it's no big deal to anyone? Because of the common sight of an "all gold" (meaning gold plated) fashion watch, two tones may stand out more to them?

Just my thoughts.

A lot of people nowadays are numb to the sight of an all-gold colored watch, thanks to the likes of Michael Kors and Invicta.

I have owned a TT Bluesy, a YG Day Date and now a full gold sub. My experience is the bluesy without a doubt has more bling than my solid gold sub or day date. It enters a room before you do.

I think you are right about this. Most people have NO CLUE how expensive luxury watches are. I know because I used to be one of those people not so long ago. I was shocked.

I don't know but I guess that people commonly associate an all-gold watch in "more or less Rolex style" to be 99% a fake. With two-tone they might believe a bit more it's the real thing. By the way, in Italy all-gold watches are really hard to spot out there, probably they are taken as bad taste. That's a pity.

I wore a TT 36mm gold dial DJ for a couple of years, and no one ever mentioned on it, I picked up a yellow gold DD a couple of weeks back and someone commented on it the day after I bought it. A very small sample set but I'd say the full gold is more "bling"

Depends on the model though too, a 16618 is no where near as flashy as a 16613, but some TT Daytonas seem a lot more gold.

EDIT: sorry I meant a 16613 is no where near as flashy as a 16618.

Completely agree, I dont think many people would realise just how much more a gold watch Rolex costs over a two tone.
