Vintage dilemma....
OK
I have a vintage dilemma Would you rather have 1) Superdome 5513 from 1978 and a basic entry Red Sub or 2) A beautiful all original ncg 5508 I am either going to keep my 5513 and pick up a cheaper Red Sub or I am going to sell my 5513 and get a 5508. Obviously these are not being bought to wear daily. Perhaps once every week or two. Also, we can all say our watches are not investments as much as we want BUT they are (especially when buying vintage). Good or bad they are investments, you know they will maintain a certain value. They are just not active investments. Id love to have and keep them all BUT that's not an option so I need to decide which one could be the better piece to own in the long term as I would be equally happy with either option.

The 5508 is a rare grail I own both a 5513 and Red sub, but I'd easily sell both for a 5508

Jeremy,
The RED is certainly a desirable watch and to many represent the "next level" in collecting. Much the same can be said of the 5513 as a great way to enter the world of vintage Rolex and certainly the watch has a special history in several of it's varients. Having said that, the 5508 is the precursor to both and in many ways set the tone for what we call "vintage Rolex". It obtained in good original condition I think it's the obivous choice. |

Thanks guys!
Thats kind of what I was thinking. Now I need to sell my 5513. Its in great shape, has a super dome on it original hands and dial in beautiful shape from 78. I have some paperwork from when it was serviced at RSC Canada as well. Just gotta figure out a value and get it moving to jump on the 5508. I wish it was a big crown BUT we have to start somewhere :)
