ALS Odysseus on grey market already!?

Hey guys,

I was browsing through WOM's site recently and was surprised to see they had an Odysseus sold out. Do you think they actually had one in stock?

I was told these were application pieces with Lange trying to carefully manage who get one so the grey market won't be flooded with Odysseus.

It’s plausible they would have. Some people will have purchased it strictly because they had the opportunity to, only to get bored with it a bit later. Seeing as you can probably get out of it at fairly good conditions, some will inevitably pop up on the market and in places that have a more exclusive circle of customers sooner than in others, probably not long until people like Steve Hallock get one for sale too.

Why are you surprised? :)

Patek releases a limited edition 6007A and the first people to get one are flippers / grey market dealers.

Considering the first ones have been delivered back in December, there have been very few to make it onto the grey market. I've been keeping a close eye on the market, I only saw a first listing in the last month. There appeared to be two on C24, turns out it was the same watch. I'd say that's a pretty big success for the brand

Agreed. Speaks volumes of the quality of the watch if so few have been 'flipped' by owners, despite the obvious demand.

I think it also helps that Major Lange collectors aren’t flippers by nature. How could they be unless they hate money. Nice to see them not flooding the secondary though that I agree with.

I feel ill have better luck finding a Lange collector who doesn’t particularly care for the Odysseus and is willing to help me get it than I will finding one on the secondary market right now anyway.

ALS buyers aren't flippers because the watches lose money the second you leave the dealer lol

I'm not surprised at all...as said above the 6007 Patek is already being flipped and that's not easy to come by

Sad to hear you weren't successful on your 6007 application.

While essentially correct I'm not sure any manufacturer (even Patek) can say none of their models lose money the second you purchase them and there are a number of Lange's that do very well on the secondary - just not as many as Patek!

They'll show up in the secondary market soon enough. The Odysseus was released right before the Coronavirus shutdown which interrupted production and deliveries. Add to that the number of boutiques that are closed which makes it difficult to "bundle" and apply for one as a bonus.

No, they did not had them on stock. Only 2 pieces appeared on Chrono so far. German grey wants € 50k+ for it.

Thanks - just had a search on chrono24 and there's one on there POA. It's a nice watch but I wouldn't be paying double retail.
