Glashutte Original SeaQ better than a Rolex Sub?

https://youtu.be/F2N14XK6fms

I don’t know anything about GO. Are they a tier above Rolex?

They’re nice, well-made watches. Good quality. But a tier above Rolex? Not in my experience. That’s just marketing talk. And I’ve owned a couple. I wouldn’t rely on a you-tube blogger for reliable information.
And if you do fancy one, buy used or ‘grey’ at discount, because the depreciation is heavy.

If we are talking about a Diver watch, no brand is superior to Rolex. ROLEX is the archetype of the diver watch and sport watches.

Diver watches: Omega, Doxa, BP, Seiko, Rolex.

While I agree about Rolex, I prefer BP in every way except resale.

Just wondering, why did you own a couple? You liked it but not enough or you just like the change?

I like their design but the numbers are a bit meh and the date window is not something I love.

OP, Glashutte Original is definitively not a big baller brand since it is virtually unknown outside the watch community.

This being said, I think that in terms of horological sophistication, the brand can be placed above Rolex since it makes more complicated watches and decorates them more.

The seaQ dial is better to my eye, I like the sun burst better than gloss black. Bezel action nowhere near as good. The rubber strap was outstanding. A well built watch I’d say.

"Better" is generally a subjective, non-quantifiable attribute.

The question for most buyers is "which would you rather have on your wrist?"

I love the brand and owned watches on both ends of GO's spectrum. I'd have some GO models over Rolex on my wrist any day (and I do), but the SeaQ misses the mark.

GO should stick with dress/casual style watches. This world does not need another diver, caz Seiko nailed it.

I really like the SeaQ - and there is a 39.5mm version with a regular date window as well. Great movement with long p/r and nice finishing. Decent bracelet and clasp with other available strap options. They've priced it up against Blancpain though (part of the same group of course), which is a tough spot for a luxury non-Rolex diver. I expect that there will be deals to be had though.

Rolex is the best in the world at marketing but it’s not high Horology. Glashutte Original shares its history with Lange & Sohne (prior to fall of Berlin Wall)
In terms of Horology, Rolex can’t even sniff Glashutte Original!!

Rolex makes great watch, but in terms of detail and finish, I would put GO above Rolex.

The problem for me with the SeaQ is that the one to get (imo) is the big panorama date, but it's a giant watch. I also find that, to my eye, the dial feels too crowded with the oversized numerals. They are also pretty thick...

But the movement is beautiful and they have a level of overall decoration that rolex lacks.

If I had a larger wrist, then maybe....

I own both brands if you want resale value Rolex can't be beat but if you want quality GO is the better choice there movements are far more superior than Rolex

I love my sea q. It’s finishing is head and shoulders above that of a Rolex sub. And it’s damn good to look at!

I like the look of the 39mm SeaQ, but the movement finishing is invisible due to the closed caseback. The power reserve on the smaller model is only 40 hours, and the movement uses a non-silicon, flat hairspring. The Rolex movements are mechanically superior (parachrom hairspring, Brequet overcoil, 48-72 hour PR) and a Submariner is about $1500 less than the smaller SeaQ. It is hard for me to justify the SeaQ on that basis. Maybe at 25-30% off list.

Very nice watches but without stating what you are measuring I don't know what makes one watch better than another. Rolex and Seiko for me but I do acknowledge other great brands.

It’s true, the beast GO (43) Id say has prettier movement and longer PR (for now) but the 39 has a small PR and probably isn’t as robust (but that’s uneducated)

Yes. Way more horologically interesting. As soon as they hit the used market with good discounts I'll be buying one.

Just tried on the 39.5mm version. When I saw the photos it seemed just ok. I liked it wayyyyy more than I expected. Usually I do research before buying a watch, looking at people's experience in the forums and photos and sleep on it. Almost bought it on the spot. Wish it had an exhibition back and not a fan of the aged lume, but at discount I think it's my next watch. Maybe the blue one with the regular lume.

As usual, it depends. Tourneau in the US did not bulge when I tried to negotiate my PML. I bought it from Europe at about 25% discount.

I am not sure what the market is for the SeaQ but I would think that it is not a fast seller. Therefore I think that if you shop around you should be able to get ~20% off or more.

The PR for seaq panorama date is 100 hours

Panorama date worth if you buy it from various dealers, price is around 9k instead of 11k

39mm standard is aprox.7k instead of 9k
