1958 Air King New strap
I have a gold cased, 1958 Air King. Does anyone know what type of strap (leather or metal) this would have originally been fitted with? Or what would suit it? thanks, Dave

Would’ve been a 19/16 leather strap with GP/GF buckle or a Gold shell 7205 oyster bracelet

Would love to see a picture of it. 62 year old Rolex are my favorites :)

Lovely piece. If you go modern I'd personally suggest a dark brown pebbled leather with dark side stitching, but that's just my tastes.
I recently came into the stainless steel kid brother of yours, a '63 AK-SP I have on bracelet right now, but usually take out on vintage brown leather. I'll try to add a snap tomorrow or soon. *If you look for a modern aftermarket metal bracelet, be careful of the end-links and how well/if they fit. |

kip595 thanks for the advice. It's currently at a jewellers in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter for a service, new crystal, rolex winder (original stem broke last year and I just had a cheap replacement fitted) and a polish. Will post a pic in couple of weeks when I get it back. (I've had it for over 20 years and wear it regularly)

Hope it helps. :)
By bizarre coincidence, my first real high-end/collectible watch came from the Brum Jewellery Quarter! (Wasn't a Rolex though, shh!) Look forward to pics! |

Air King 5506
Had my watch back after a service.
I think the watch may be older than I first thought. I've had it 25 years and always thought it was 1960's, but the Serial number is 388930, which I think may be late 1940's? Any help would be appreciated. Pic attached. Dave |

Rolex reset their case numbering system in the early 50s so your watch likely dates from 1958 (can't be exact so this is an approximate date). The dial and handset may have been changed at some stage, but this was pretty common. You have a nice watch there and hope you enjoy for many more years to come |

Black leather was popular with gold watches back in the day.
