Icon17 A rare dial

Forget that Wimbledon dial, this is rare!

Serviced this 18239 for a buddy and changed the dial to this NOS walnut wood.

Dial looks great but shouldn't the hands have lume for that dial?

Nope. There is no lume on the dial.

It is wrongly printed T Swiss T like many other non-lume dials from that era.

Wonderful dial with what looks like tiny burls in the slice of Walnut.

Can you tell us a few things?

Does Rolex advise watchmakers to apply any wood preservative oil to the surface?

Or is the dial sealed with stain lacquer or varnish?

Was curious how the wood avoids cracking/splitting.

Thanks for sharing your work here. It is much appreciated by we who admire the many options in various models.

It is sealed with clear lacquer. Only way to avoid cracking/warping is to make sure the watch is always water resistant. Moisture is the death of dials like this.

So if I had an 18239 would I have the option to get one of these? Also are the date and day wheels original or did you add that as well?

It’s a radial dial to boot.

Yes that would be possible, if the dial is still available at the time of the request. These are no longer in production, when they're gone, they're gone.

Chinese date and day were requested, over 20 languages are available on the 3155. These are all original Rolex parts, obviously.
