Anyone else only buy brand new?
I know the second hand market is very popular but I can't own a watch another man has previously worn/dinged. Anyone else?

I did... but from this 2020 I said to myself only NOS or Brand new, maybe cause in my collection I have everything I need from the past.

I sort of agree but in saying that have just bought 2 x NOS Tudors complete with stickers from collectors who had them for 20 years and never worn them.
I suppose they still count? I also don't like the idea of buying a pre owned watch that has been potentially abused. |

The majority of mine collection was bought new. However 1680 was pre-owned for obvious reasons as was my Smurf (the saving was just too great at the time to pass up).
I never really thought it about the fact someone else has worn them. They are both mine now! I do have a friend though whose wife insists they only buy newly built houses as she will not live in a house someone else has lived in. |

for models available new in AD, yes always BNIB for me.
However I won't pay NOS premium on discontinued models hence used ones seemingly the only option for me. |

I bought a used Submariner in the early 90s that had a kind of crackled dial (a defect) and the Rolex rep at the mall one day took it from me and sent it to RSC for a complete overhaul and new dial and bezel. I was so pleased. A few years later I learned I should have kept that watch original...

I've only bought new Rolex but also have a CWC G10 from 1985. I would only buy Rolex new unless it was NOS and wouldn't pay over list. I'd rather not have it if that's the case.

I wouldn't worry as much about the scratches / dings a previous owner has put on a watch but rather about the amount of sloppy polishing it has received from the re-seller. What I've seen done to pre-owned watches by some stores really ruins it for me so yes, I much prefer brand new. Even if that means I'll never have the joy of owning some discontinued reference. |

Cheaper watches I’m less fussy but I’ll always strive for nearly new or NOS if buying used. Rolex I’ve only ever bought new from the AD.
No interest in buying watches I’d take a hit on buying new so if I buy used it takes a little patience. My Omega FOIS was spotless. Saved about £1000. |

Do I want to buy brand new from ADs ? ......... YES
Will ADs sell me the models I want brand new at MSRP ? ........... NO I am gonna have to sue Rolex for "epic" unfair business practice and monopolistic practice. Rolex is forcing me to buy from Grey market at "unreal" price fixing amounts. |

I'm the same way, no logical reason, just my preference.
Although lately it's been logical given the premiums second hand. If I ever bought used, it would be for a vintage piece, no need for NOS. The only NOS watch I would consider is if I decided to buy back my biggest selling regret and favorite watch that I've owned, the 116710LN. |

Used PM watches make sense.
I bought a mint 2002 18k gold Sub in 2010 for $13k and sold it for $14k in 2016. |

There are just too many variables, with people trying to make a buck off of watches that aren’t that great of a value at MSRP, people rebuilding or modifying watches, and sellers not being exactly sure what they have and claiming 2 year in store warranties and “careful inspections by our jewelers” that never happened that just don’t make it worthwhile.
Unless you just happen to be a huge expert on every variant, you don’t even know what you’re buying or if someone’s trying to screw you over if you just trust the seller. |

I say its always a better deal buying a slightly used Rolex model but I never seem to. With current market SS trends, I am not buying used if its so close to a new price point.

I bought a used DJ a few months ago and got a great deal on it. Couldn't even tell it was worn. Was it worth the savings? Absolutely, but you gotta make sure you triplecheck the condition.
A few years ago I bought a used Explorer and the condition wasn't quite "barely worn" as the seller described. Their pics were accurate though, so it was my fault for not giving it a thorough check and asking questions as everyone has different opinions on condition. It was still a great deal and I ended up flipping it for more than I paid, but the condition was one of the reasons I didn't keep it. |

Back when sports models where selling below MSRP from greys I purchased an excellent condition 116610LV that was only 3 months old according to the warranty card. It saved me around $600 and looked brand new. I was completely happy with the purchase and would do it again, if prices ever drop.

If I'm gong to wear it, I save the money by buying preowned - especially if there is significant unused warranty time.

It depends. All things being equal, I prefer brand new...but I like some vintage pieces and there's no other choice than to buy preowned.
Also I really like 5 digit Rolexes, at least I think I do, but I don't own any yet, because of this very dilemma... My first Rolex will be new though. Soon hopefully. Just waiting to see what is announced in Sept before making any purchases. |
