Let's Face It....

The thing that gets TRF the most excited is when Rolex releases a cheaper, SS version of a watch that used to be PM only.

1) Sky Dweller -- As PM only it had limited interest, was unloved for the most part, but "not because of price." As SS, it's the hottest watch in the "classic Rolex" line to get, especially in blue.

2) BLRO -- Unloved by the masses, not because it was almost $40k, but because the bezel colors were off, etc. In SS, it's next to impossible to get at an AD even years later and THE GMT to own.

If Rolex had come out with a SS blue Sub to replace the Smurf, or heaven forbid a SS Day Date, the internet would have broken. But not because of lower cost, just because those models would look so much better in SS.

Do Rolex fanbois get excited about movement improvements? No, they run to buy the now discontinued older models before they had the longer power reserves and virtually unbreakable bezels.

Day Date is available in Platinum and WG if you like the white metal look. This flagship should never be available in SS.

It makes sense for the SkyD to go SS, as it took heavy investment to develop a totally new movement, so it made sense to expand to SS models to maximize the profits. Plus it was a new model building the history.

Pepsi was historically SS, it would be unthinkable that Rolex would discontinue the SS forever so it was just a matter of time to reintroduce the SS version.

SS DD is more like committing brand suicide, make it look like desperate for revenue.

SS smurf will be interesting, could be in the future, though the chance will be very low. Just like the SS Daytona C, people thought it couldn't happen for the exclusivity of Platona, but it happened.

Nice!

But imagine if it was SS sub with blue bezel + sunburst dial.....

Or SS Daytona with the gray dial/black subdial from the 116519LN...

So so true. I will never forget how people TRASHED the BLRO in WG because of the bezel. Like they wouldn't be caught dead with it. And suddenly in steel is perfectly fine. We are all hypocrites!

LOL Soooo true.

Lets be honest here. SS is only popular due to entry price point. Now ppl are just buying SS to rip off the next buyer.

Harsh but true.

A stainless Sub with a navy blue bezel and black dial and I am a buyer again. Initially I thought this was what was being teezed.

When it was clear that the blue sub was WG and that it had a dreadful bright blue bezel ... As soon as I got over the disappointment I thought - well, maybe Cermit....

But after seeing actual pics it is evident that this model isn't a Kermit 2 Cermit... The green bezel on the Kermit is awesome - almost hints of an olive color...

This new green sub is just the Hulk bezel on a black dialed watch with smaller lugs.

I already own a Hulk.. Why would I want this??

Disappointed. But at least I am saving some money.

I completely agree. IMO, it's "the tail wagging the dog" where many people *prefer* SS to WG or platinum. I'm not saying that as a platinum owner. Where else in the jewelry world would people bid up SS jewelry to WG prices because they really, really prefer it? Here, everyone thinks it's that SS is more limited. I'd be super surprised if there's any Rolex model available in both SS and WG where the production volume is lower in SS.

Agree. And don’t forget the big category of those who mix investing with watch collecting.

I’m super excited about the TT blue sub. Wanted to buy one for a while but didn’t because I knew the caliber would get upgraded.
