Tudor BB58 more desirable now?

Now that the new Rolex Submariner has become a little bigger, among "available" (aka not discontinued) divers from the stable of Hans Wilsdorf, has the Tudor BB58 become slightly more desirable for some? I know that this is not an apples to apples comparison and I'll get some flack for this blasphemy.

Don't get me wrong, I am not taking props away from the Sub (prestige, history, material etc.), but i think those who prefer cases that are 40mm or below are likely to look elsewhere and I can't think of a non-discontinued watch other than the 58 that comes in as a close contender (again, not denying anything Rolex had to offer).

I just wanted to throw this out for discussion as I don't have anything better to do today :).

The case of the BB58 has near perfect proportions. Is that enough to pull people away from the Crown? Not sure, but FWIW, I don’t feel like I’m compromising when wearing my Blue BB58. It’s a fantastic watch.

Tudor BB ETA at 41mm was perfect size. When BB58 was released.. lot of them were like.. see this 39mm is perfect and 41 was thick and big. But now Rolex made the Sub to the original BB ETA proportions!!

Will remain desirable imo, with the long waitlists I could see more people picking one up. A fellow I ran into yesterday wanted a Sub but didn’t want to continue waiting so he ended up picking up a BB58 and loves it.

The new Submariner has moved the BB58 Blue to my list. If they had kept the Submariner the old size with thinner lugs I would prefer a Submariner.

They are appropriate "modern" proportions. I don't mind the 41mm (in house) on my 7 inch wrist. The case thickness itself is pretty similar (if not the same) to the ETA version, it is just that the case back sticks out further increasing the overall thickness. Some wrists hide it well, some don't.

The 58 on the other hand wears like it was made for my wrist. The proportions and aesthetics are much more versatile.

The blue one looks even better in person. I have the black one but am itching to get the blue as well.

Yeah, one of the ADs I spoke with when I was trying to locate one mentioned the same. He said that they received one the day before and someone who came in inquiring about a Sub snagged it right away.

I have both a 5 digit Sub and the BB58 blue. Even before the new Sub release, I saw them different enough to both sit in a collection. Moreover, there were specific cases where I felt wearing one or the other was more appropriate.

Both great watches of course.

Yup, generally they are kept in the safe not the display case. Really beautiful piece coming from someone who isn’t a fan of no dates.

I have said this to anyone that will listen. When you can get 90% of the watch with a 58, a BB GMT, or a Pelagos for a 1/3 or less of price versus the Rolex why would you not.

Some will only purchase watches that have Rolex on the dial. To each their own.

I agree with you though. I still recommend a Rolex to people who ask but also say they should check out Tudor as the Black Bay line is amazing. If Tudor would totally fix their GMT watch for good or release a new one without any issues, that could possibly be my only watch.

Yep. I like to enjoy/wear my watches but also don't like unwanted attention. I like how Tudors are a little more discrete than a Rolex.

I would like to see Tudor introduce a GMT in a 58 case. That will be my only watch.

The blue Pelagos has grown on me. I tried it on the other day... the clasp is incredible. I am looking to replace my 41mm BB with a blue dial watch. I can't decide if I should get another 58 in blue or a Pelagos.

I stopped by my AD this afternoon but it didn’t have a 58 and said they won’t have any for at least a few months, if not several.

On the other hand, they did have a bunch of various DJs, a couple of YMs, a YMII, maybe a Sub, and a Daytona, although it looked smaller than I would’ve imagined (I’ve never seen one in person).

Replace it with Rolex logo and people will go crazy. Lol. It tells you doesn’t matter what’s inside if it is Rolex then it’s the best thing ever. Lol.

Wait. They 'maybe' had a Sub?

I don't think it changes any desirability. It's just there is now more choice than last week. Which arguably may lower it. Good news if you're trying to find one.

Haha I was distracted and, as a relatively new Rolex owner, my identification skills aren’t properly honed. I can’t recall if the YG with blue bezel was a sub, GMT, or YM.

My bad for the obvious party foul.

Haha, that would be a Bluesy Sub. I have the TT version and it’s funny because non watch people have asked me if it’s a Submariner?!

Tudor BB58 more desirable now?

After seeing the new Sub lineup , I feel even better about having picked up the BB58 blue when it came out - blue dial, blue bezel in a case that has better proportions than the Sub for me (I say this as an owner of a SubC LN and LV). I also have an eta BBR but always was a hair too big and too thick on me.

You could have the discussion that you could stay solely in the Tudor lineup and cover all of your Rolex SS needs at a fraction of the cost. If you can get your arms around it I don't know that you would be wrong.

39 is great. That said, I don’t see the sub at 41 to be an issue. I think it will wear the exact same as the boxy 40

This exactly. The Tudor seems invisible, whereas I used to get way too much attention with my Sub.

Seriously doubt the new Sub will wear much bigger on the wrist.

And seriously doubt many who are set on getting a Sub, when given the choice, will choose the Tudor instead.

If a Sub isn't available, then perhaps getting a BB58, or any other watch, may take one potential Sub sale away, but with the high demand, doubt there will any problems selling every Sub Rolex makes.

I love the new BB58 in blue. The tone of blue is just perfect. Maybe better than the old smurf.

I have a SubC 40 and a BB58 blue. While they are both divers, the SubC 40 has a more refined look and feel. The BB58b has a more casual and brighter feel. My thoughts on owning both watches are that they are sufficiently different to warrant having both if you have the budget.

Prior to the release of the new subs, I was worried about the possibility of a SS blue sub forcing me to rethink my BB58b purchase. Post sub release, I’m glad that I no longer have to worry about that.
