Incoming 2x
Aloha everyone, hope you're all staying safe and Covid-free. Wanted to share my incoming 2x from JULY; sorry for the horribly late post. Wanted to be sure to give a shout out and Mahalo to BOTH David Williams (aka DavidSW) for the Grand Seiko SBGJ201 and Scott Kaplan at HQ Milton for the Tag Heuer Monaco! A few thoughts on my latest additions:
Grand Seiko: been looking at Seiko for about 2 years now and am very happy with this watch. It does wear a bit "taller" than a typical Rolex sports watch but the "Mt. Iwate" dial really is something to behold, along with the sharp edges of the hands and watch case as the attention to detail really is outstanding. The blue GMT hand adds a nice splash of color against the ivory dial. I'm still getting used to not having any lume on the dial which becomes a problem outside at night but this watch doubles as both sporty and dressy which is nice. The bracelet is also very comfortable. Speaking of, if you have a larger wrist like I do (7-3/4), be ready to order extra links as the base bracelet will not fit you. Appreciate David sourcing me extra links directly from Seiko to help me get the right fit. Great customer service there no doubt! Tag Heuer: I flipped a Monaco (CAW2114FT6021) some years ago to help me upgrade to Rolex. Deep down, I always planned to get a Monaco again and when I did it'd be a blue dialed one. Personally, I don't like the latest McQueen iteration but heh to each their own. Came across this 38mm version on HQ Milton's website and grabbed it. The dial is a flat blue rather than sunburst but is very pleasing to the eye whether in direct sunlight or not. I also didn't notice much of a drop-off dial size wise from my previous Monaco which was 39mm across. A part of that is due to the wide bracelet which blends into the case well and is "blingy" to say the least but is sturdy and a cool design when you look closely at the links. This watch also wears a little tall due to the square back but is still comfortable. All in all a nice sports watch that will see some occasional wrist time. And my apologies for the black dust on the Plexi in the pic and I have no idea why my wrist looks like it's getting choked to death either. The last picture is my current humble collection. So much for downsizing and upgrading this year including trying to obtain my first PP. I think the 5227R remains one of the most beautiful dress watches out there and I also admire the 5711 in white and 5712 in SS. I know I can't afford these pieces with straight up cash so what do I offload!? Any thoughts gang? As you can see, I like blue dials as I have 3 of them right now, thus a platinum DD with the ice blue dial would be an awesome pickup too lol. Blessed to have this first world problem I realize. Have a nice Labor Day Weekend everyone.
