Icon5 Pepsi or Coke?

Hi Guys,

I am just new to this forum and I havent even bought my first rolex watch yet!

A friend of mine owns two GMT II ( Z series). One with "Pepsi" bazel and the other one with "Coke". I am thinking of buying one of them but cant seem to decide which one to go for. I like them both.

Would really appreciate some expert advice as to which one should I buy!?

Many Thanks

Easy buy the one you like most then just get a bezel insert to change to the others pepsi,black/red or full black insert they are not expensive around £30 and quite easy to change, 3 watches for the price of one, plus inserts cost.

AGREED

Just take the one in better shape, get a "Pepsi" + "Coke" and also a black insert and you have 3 watches...

don't worry, with the GMTII, you can have coke & pepsi. just get either one and then get the bezel inserts for the other.

Buy whichever watch is a better deal (if there's a difference), and get the bezel inserts on the sales corner here...

G'Day mate! Coke is big in Australia compared to Pepsi. Wonder why!?
Could anyone tell me which bezel looks more "cool",... "Pepsi" or "Coke"?
I just want others opinion.
Cheers

Each insert has it's place; black for a dressier, classic look, coke for winter, and pepsi for summer, imho. Overall the pepsi looks the coolest.

I agree with these guys buy both. I bought the black one, then a coke insert, and now looking for a pepsi insert.

Welcome to TRF.

I wore a GMT for years before I flipped it for my Polar Expy II. My GMT was had a Pepsi bezel. Enjoyed it for years. Recommend it based on my likes.

I have Subs and an SD, so on my GMT II, I have a Pepsi bezel only, as the black bezel insert would make the GMT II resemble a Sub !

Larry,
I've always been curious why pepsi is a legit nickname for the blue/ red insert but coke is not for the black/ burgundy? Aren't both non official anyway? Makes no difference to me other than it's much easier to label it "coke" rather than black/ burgundy.
Thanks in advance,
dP

Yes....

They are unofficial and anybody can call it whatever they want..

I've been a GMT wearer for decades though, and primarily the red/black......it has never been nicknamed after a soft-drink (or a drug you snort up your nose) until the past couple of years.... and it's mostly come about because of "competitions" on forums such as this one who seem to think that their watch needs a nick-name.

The bright blue/red bezel combo got it's "Pepsi" nickname because it looked like the circular emblem for Pepsi, not just because it had a blue and red motif... the Black and red bezel doesn't resemble a logo of any soft-drink company in any form....and it could be argued that Dr. Pepper used red/black way before Coke took on the colors a couple of years back with their Coke-zero.

So, I guess I'm a purist and traditionalist, as well as a long-time GMTer....

I call a Sub without a Date a Sub.........the one with the Date is a Sub Date..

I call a GMT a GMT.....

and I guess I still slip and call my Daytona a Cosmo, because they all didn't used to be Daytonas.

So, gimme a break .............. I haven't banned anybody yet for calling it a "coke"...........

................................although I've been sorely tempted.........
