Indeed it is 18 Ct gold, although their Rose and White gold is slightly different to "normal" Rose and White gold, due to the use of platinum as a colour fixing agent.

They use a combination of yellow gold and copper as you would normally when creating rose gold, but then they use the platinum as a fixing agent, which stops the colour from fading over time, hence the Rolexspeak of "Everose".

Rolex has not always used 18k gold though.. Early examples are 14k, in the 50's/60's you might also find some plated, and earlier they were 9k...

Does gold loose it's shine over time or start to fade? Is it ok the get a gold watch polished. Just wondering as I'm picking my first TT watch (gmt2c) over the weekend. It's second hand and I may want to get it polished to bring it to brand new new condition.

Rolex replaces most of the silver with platinum to create Everose. Another one of the many reasons they cost more. Mark |

In Europe Especialy in France,Italy,Swisserland,Germany there is a regulation with Gold!
18 Carats or + only! You rarely gonna see 14 carats, and 10carats you only see this in America! |
