If anyone is in the market for a DD40 or DD36
Have you noticed how fast the prices are going up with the Grey listings?
It is though they are at an auction all bidding against each other. I am always going the wrong way down a one way street. |

Man tell me about it. I'm not paying too close attention to the DD36s but the DD40s are gone crazy compared to only a few months ago.
I think the hype has well and truly hit the YG/RG models now. I was going to buy a 3rd DD40 for myself but damn so expensive now. Maybe ppl waking up realizing the hyped SS are just not worth it and moving onto gold? |

You may be right. SS is just not gold and the value play here, given the hyped up SS prices, is for the gold models.

I remember seeing listings (which you can see if you go back in some of the classified threads) for the DD40 at $27,5 to $29,0 and thinking that it seemed reasonable. Flash forward now and most of them are close to MSRP on the grey.
I think Peter is right, these are getting the hype as well as the SS. When people are seeing SS secondary prices reaching PM, I think more are going PM. |

There could be some truth in this. If one has above 25k usd to burn for a Rolex, might as well get an elegant piece. Hence a gold DD36 at least. |

If I could get the anniversary dial for $27-28 I would sell my DD 36 and Datejust and grab one right away.

I know... They're out of my league now. I think I'll just buy a 5 digit sub for now

I've just bought a 36mm DD, birth year 1970 1803, it's stunning in my opinion and still relatively good value

Yep. And, barring a total economic collapse, it's only going one way.
I remember buying mine at the height of the TRF "conventional wisdom," that if you bought gold you were doomed to massive hits of depreciation, not to mention the metal was so soft you could never wear it. So much for conventional wisdom. |

My next Rolex will definitely be a DD or two tone. Gotta have some gold.

Pm prices are on the rise. I'm kicking myself for not picking up a platinum DD when they were >30k.

No complaints here. Glad I got into the RG Olive when I did. People may have associated the increase in gold prices with all things gold.
I would like to see some upward momentum on the PT DD2, but of course I am biased. |

Well, I am happy to hear that Day-Dates are supopsedly rising in value, but I am afraid I do not really see any evidence of this in the marketplace. It is possible to go on eBay, or these pages for that matter, and purchase a nice functional double-quickset Day-Date for $20,000 or less, often much less, in nice condition. Comparing this to the apparent madness for minutely differing variations of sports watches with dealer asking prices well above new retail, I would feel comfortable saying that Day-Date is still a "used" watch.
