For us vintage Datejust fans!

John Goldberger posted this on IG and it just blew my mind! As you might now, I love blue dialed Rolexes and here he comes with a full white gold 1605 with a friggin’ Lapis dial! How rare can this one be??

Cool blue! And Rolex is coloring up their OPs again which is sure to make Goldbereger’s piece even more collectible. Thanks for sharing

stone dials have always brought huge premiums. this thing is probably one of handful out there. WG 4 digits are rare enough as it is, then this dial just takes it to the next level, especially with the original bracelet

I'd consider myself fairly well educated and it's the first i've heard of it as well. I assumed it had something to due with the dial/metal possibly. Google shows no results other than a yellow gold DJ and a bamboo bezel SS one.

maybe has something to due with being a non pie pan dial back then?

That's smoking hot. What a look. L unar oyster had a solid white gold four digit datejust, fluted bezel. Within the last year if I remember correctly it was priced at 20k and I remember it being a 1601.

Found it https://lunaroyster.com/product/1969...tial-bracelet/

This one has a Presidential bracelet instead of the Jubilee

I also saw that post by John Goldberger and was also stunned by how beautiful it was. I was also unaware of this variation in dial and metal. Would probably prefer this over a Stella Day-Date, which I know is heresy.

Imaging been a little bit tanned for the summer and looking down on this bad boy on your wrist, the white gold will just be mesmerizing together with that intense blue color!

Found some info on the reference 1605:

I had a friend looking for a Lapis DD, last I heard he hadn't found one, but was offered a Dial only for $13,000 if that tells you anything about the premium the dial itself brings lol

So after reading that it appears that the '05 represents a solid gold watch that has the different bezel but the one shown in the beginning with the blue lapis dial is definitely a fluted bezel. And they have different bracelets.

Thanks for the post op, again. Likewise I am very attracted to the blue dials I just never seem to be able to find one that's not compromised around the edges.

Every price above 25.000 usd for a datejust is insane.

If you take the time, you can find realy rare and nice ones far below 7.000,- usd.

$30k+ stainless cartier dials are, some of the rarer WG models I can understand.

I like how you can get a pretty rare model for not much of a premium as well

I wish I had the right name for it.

A well known vintage dealer from Amsterdam calls this a tropical dial, he also had never seen it before.

For today we choose a more modest yacht and shorts.

Also allowed?
