Tudor Submariner more collectible than the Rolex version?

I was pondering this today: due to the fact that there are inherently less Tudor Submariners in the world than the Rolex version due to it being discontinued many moons ago surely that makes them more rare thus more collectible. What do you think?

honestly, it is handsome, less people has it and the price is hiking up too.

when i heard tudor releasing the blue 58, i thought the looks will be the same as this tudor sub. but then again, the blue one still nice, but tudor sub is unbeatable.

Watch looks really nice, it may be rarer but as it’s not a Rolex it will never be as sought after.

Isn’t it funny that the only visual difference is the dial logo, even the case and crown are the same. I’m not sure that the movement particularly matters.

Myself always buy and wear watches because I want to wear that particular watch and not on some perceived rarity or collectable value.

My beat up nonworking seiko kinetic is far rarer than any Rolex or Tudor in the world.

I would be lucky if anyone even wanted it for free.

To be honest I do value the Rolex brand much more and kind of love Rolex watches. Just a funny pondering I had today.

I disagree older Tudor subs are bringing Rolex prices and will always be collectable

Given the choice between a Tudor or Rolex sub from the same year I’d take the Tudor. Especially if it was the blue version

I must say, the Tudor Submariner has a lot of ‘underdog’ charm. A very solid watch due to the use of Rolex parts too.

Did someone say Tudor Blue Submariner , I bought this back in the day when not many people were interested in them , which suited me fine as I’ve never bought a watch because it’s the latest & greatest . And Ive always had a thing for blue watches, and this ticked every box then & still does now

The Tudor Subs definitely have their unique charm. These are both 76100’s too, which was the transitional model after the Snowflake.

They are lovely watches, but just because something is rare doesn't make it collectible. That's dependent on demand >>> supply. But Tudor Subs are fantastic watches in their own right.

Collectibility is driven by demand, not the rarity of an item. There might only a certain amout of Faberge eggs, but that doesn't make them collectible.

I own a Blue Snowflake because I love the color and it's part of a collection. If it was going to be my only watch? Then I probably would've picked up a 1680 / 5513 instead.

Your watch is stunning. In 1970 right out of college I sent to Europe for a backpacking trip. Went to Chronomitrie Beyer in Zürich where they had a Submarier 5513 and Tudor sitting side by side. $130 and $95 respectively. I didn't have a lot of money but took the Sub because I hated the snowflake hands. It took a few years before the Tudor got the Mercedes hand.

Wow, that’s an amazing little tidbit - fantastic to hear a first hand experience like that going back so far. It’s super that the watches still exist and are running as well as ever.

Rare doesn't always mean collectible but a Tudor Sub seems to be both as well as being a desired piece. It may never reach the Rolex value but it's all relevant and will sure holds it's own.

Bought mine in summer of 1991 when the Adak NEX was closing down...got it for a steal...have kept it in rotation with my Pepsi GMT since 2001...has been in servicing since late July...when the crown came off when I was switching time zones....anxious to get it back!

Here is mine

I got it at a local thrift store for $50 plus tax at the beginning of the year. Pardon the quality of the pics, they were taken originally at the thrift store (which was a bit dark ) and I had to crop them in MS paint from my original post on WUS due to the new WUS site making all older pics a stupid WEBP file

I left it at my watchmaker's place right before the Covid virus state wide shutdown happened and he is still working on it because there is a backlog of other watches and clocks for him to work on (he shut down for a couple of months).

This watch seems to have ran well but was well worn, The watchmaker is only going to service the watch and replace the crystal, seals, crown tube and crown (He has the crown tube and crown in stock). He is not going to touch the rest of it.

Never been convinced by the triangles at 6, 9 and 12 but Tudor should probably revive these rather than endless black bays. Would sell like hot cakes.
