Dad bought my grail today.

For himself!
I talked him into visiting an AD that is near him today. He is 75, still very young at heart, and is sporty.
Now, my Dad isn’t WIS like me. He loves his BLNR, but I sensed he was in the mood for something to add, as he mentioned a retirement gift to himself of a PM piece.
Only PM they had was a 126655, which happens to be on a short list of my grails.

SA offers to pay tax after a few minutes of
trying it on. Looks like discounts can still be had on PM.

He and I talk it over on the side. I ask him if he really likes it. He is stunned by it. Told him no brainer then. Out the door for MSRP.
No prior history with this AD, as he got his BLNR from me.

Thanks guys.
He didn’t know it was a grail of mine until we left the store.

He likes how subtle it is. Yet from across the room you can tell there is something special about this watch!

I hope he enjoys it for years as I think this fits him better than the BLNR, style wise.

This watch gets no hype but it is easily one of the nicest watches in my collection.
I’m very happy for your dad and hopefully he’ll let you wear it sometimes!

Beautiful

Possibly one of the most under appreciated pieces in the current Rolex line up.

Tried one on once at my AD - that Oysterflex is super comfy.

Hope your Dad enjoys his new baby...

Thanks to all for the kind responses. I will pass them along.

My main motivation for posting this was to just to pass on our experience at an AD with no purchase history. The kindness that was shown my Father was gracious and appreciated. The discount was a nice touch.

Stories like this one fill my heart with happiness . Treasure your parents. Sadly mine are now gone but left beautiful memories.

OP, give your dad a hug from me.

Congratulations! It’s a great choice.

I would imagine the AD was very happy to have such pleasant customers not chasing after the impossible

Personally I think it's the best looking watch in the current Rolex collection.

I have the 116655 and it's subtle (even understated compared to a Sub) but it only takes a bit of light and it sparkles, every time I wear mine it gets compliments.

That is super nice...well done to your Pa! This one and the Rhodium 40 are starting to really get my attention more and more. Can I ask ...what size is your Dad’s wrist? Not sure if a 42 is going to wear like Exp2. I like a little meat showing either side of the lugs and can just pull off the Exp.

I believe his wrist is 6.75”.
He loves the glide lock, and do I.

I have a 7” flat wrist and hopefully can wear it on occasion.

Have to admit, Oysterflex is growing on me. Now I’m looking at the 116515 as maybe my new grail. Geez, this gets maddening.

Thank you Ron, you’re the same as me....any pics of you wearing it?
I love the Rhodium and know it fits great but that black bezel on WG is something else!
