All I wanted was a Yacht Master...

Earlier this year I was involved in a car accident and I decided that yes it’s great to plan for the future, you should also live for now.

I’ve grown up admiring the Rolex brand, the year me and my siblings were born, my dad would buy a new Rolex which he would hand down to us “in good time” he would say!

Anyways, deciding to live for now, I wanted to own my own Rolex. The YM 40 with the blue dial was calling my name... went into my local AD and put my name down. Few weeks passed and I got a call, not for the YM but for a 116610LN. It didn’t take much thinking about, it’s a Sub! Why would I say no?! So I bought it.

Few months later, same AD calls and says they have the YM for me! I’m wearing the Sub every day, it’s so comfortable on the wrist and not too in your face. Perfect! So I didn’t need the YM anymore.
Wrong.
I bought that too! It’s what I originally wanted I told myself so go for it! It’s similar but also dissimilar enough to warrant getting it.

Great now I have 2 fantastic Rolex’s!

Now last week Friday, my dad has caught the same bug as me and bought himself a Day Date.... but the AD bundled it for him along with a white dial Daytona.... he calls me asking if I want it..... I’ve never thought about it because, as much as I appreciate the history and heritage of the Daytona, the fact ‘everyone’ wants one put me off thinking about it. Not to mention the ridiculous grey prices.

But I said yes and now I also have a Daytona. (I paid my dad back for it! No freebies here haha)

Anyways, living for now has meant I’ve bought 3 Rolex’ and I’m now thinking should I have just bought one PM piece!

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to share the story!

Wonderful story and Rolex journey. Interestingly, the most beautiful of your three to me is the blue dial YM

Epic story, OP - and awesome for your dad to offer you the Daytona (and even better for you to pay him back!)

You have an outstanding collection and I hope you wear them all in the best of health!

Well done! As for the one PM comment, I think any collection is always better off with a mix of steel and PM.

Enjoy those bad boys!

Great 3. You could always let one go (Daytona) and pay the difference for a PM piece. And which DD did your dad get?

I don't think the watches are genuine pieces.

Great collection, I've owned 2 of those 3 but would definitely change them all for one pm watch, having recently done that myself I'm amazed at the difference of how much more special a solid gold watch and bracelet feels, true luxury, leave the steel for knifes and forks in my opinion!

Buddy your dad sold you a fake Daytona

The AD pieces look great though

Hope the car accident part of this story was also fictional.

I think all 3 are actually fake. Look at the bezel on that Sub. Plus the dials don't add up to them being delivered this year from an AD. That thin font on the Sub hasn't been in recent deliveries. Also, that YM should be a 126622 with the bolder font and crown at 6 if it was a 2020 delivery.

What's with these posts lately that appear to be testing if people can/will call out a fake on here?

The numbers on the bezel of the Sub are not white enough. You may want to ask another AD if you’ve been had. Let us sleuths know who’s zooming who.
