(one of the) first thing you do with a new Rolex...
Is this strange behavior... With a new Rolex (even from the AD), I always feel the need to check for signature "crown" on the sapphire crystal. It's a bit hard to see and you need a magnifying lens to see at the right angle. Am I alone? What is the history on this mark and do all models have it?
I have tried to take pictures, but seems lighting or angle is difficult. |

First things I do are remove stickers, size the bracelet, put it on, and enjoy.
The laser etched crown on the crystal has been around now for many years and I believe it was originally there to prove authenticity. |

I don’t do anything. I just wear it. Although it’s probably not a bad idea to inspect it before you leave the AD. I just never have.

I make sure the crown is aligned straight. If not, I won’t buy it. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Daytona or Pepsi.

It depends on if it is new to me new or factory new. If its factory new then I just wear it. If its new to me new then I clean it because it grosses me out to think of other peoples skin cells, sweat, oil and dirt all over the watch.

I thoroughly inspected the watch at the AD with a loupe. After they had it sized, I checked it again to make sure they hadn't scratched it or mangled the screws. It helped they had a watchmaker on site as he did the job, not the SA. Other than that I wear the heck out of it, I stare at it all the time and think to myself "fu***** he**, what a piece"...

(one of the) first thing you do with a new Rolex...
Strangely, the first things I do is wear and post some photos on the forum. Like you I can only seem to find the LEC with a loop but it's not something I do at first. Usually much later. On my newest watch I've yet to find it. I'm pretty certain that's OK since I've not looked.

Have to agree its just a watch thats meant to be worn daily on your wrist, its not a object to be goggled at and pampered, wrapped up in cotton wool. Yes we know Rolex watches are expensive but truth be told they were always expensive even 40 plus years ago. But today with alignment points, loupe mania, winding crown so called alignment , worrying over a couple of seconds out of 86400 in a day. Is it safe to wear my watch in this city, country or not, I sometime wonder why some buy Rolex watches perhaps just to wear the name. I always thought Rolex made one of the toughest most accurate and reliable watch made today, but reading the thousands of posts on forum lately, looks like I might be wrong, now looked on as little more than £££$$$ to many.

Was about to say the same thing. I recall opening my Rolex back in the late 90’s, strapping it on and wearing it where ever I went. I then spent time reading and studying the booklets that came with it. Resale value, alignment, was it safe...just did not occur to me. |

1. Take off the stickers
2. Size the bracelet 3. Wind the watch and set the time 4. Put it on my wrist and wear it while making sure I bang it to a doorpost so the first scratch or ding is there and I don't have to worry about that anymore

First thing I do is photograph the watch, boxes, tags, guarantee cards and receipts, these are then printed off and filed separately from the actual ones and saved on the cloud. This ensures that I have copies of everything in case the worst should happen.
Then the watch goes on the wrist.
