Anyone see this dial design on Rolex 6309 before?
Picked this watch up at auction and paid quite a bit for it but thought it was unusual. Red Datejust Turnograph dated 1955. I've looked on the web and haven't seen another dial quite like this. Anyone else? I'm looking at the hour markers and the dots for the minutes. Also, the watch isn't running due to what I believe is a broken mainspring. Can anyone recommend a decent watchmaker to put a new one in? In USA. Also thinking the crystal could be replaced. I have a couple more pics I can post.

Actually now I have seen a similar dial while surfing the web. It can be found at this website: https://www.thebeautifulwatch.com/en...lex-1959-6609#
Somewhat later watch with a couple differences in writing but dial otherwise the same. |

beautiful watch, nice score, really not sure who still works on these old movements/has parts. lots of problems arose when these ran dry. i'm sure someone will be along with knowledgeable watchmakers who could take on the task. don't see too many early birds like this. |

I’ve seen those strange applied “dimples” on original bubbleback dials (model 2940 for example). That is a very cool watch you found there.

The printing on your dial looks original and not repainted. In the mid-50s there was a lot of use of red in the text on a few models. There was even a depth rating added along the way.

Thank you for the responses! Great watch in that last post. It is cool how early Datejusts had so many design possibilities. Makes for exciting collecting.
Did these earlier watches have the magnifier on the crystal or not? I'm leaning towards getting a regular crystal for this that doesn't magnify the date. The watch came with what I assume is it's original bracelet. Marked Rolex and USA and JB (may also have Champion - I'lll have to look). |

Sending this off to Philip Ridley for a mainspring, cla and crystal. Never used him before but lots of good reviews of his work.
