Should I trade my Batman and Hulk For Gold Daytona OF?
Hello all!
Ever since the hulk has been discontinued I’ve had this thought constantly hammering my brain, both of my watches skyrocketed lately and I could easily trade them for a Yellow Gold Daytona on OF which I think is possibly one of the best looking Rolex currently in production. Now, I don’t care much for the hulk, it’s an amazing watch but i bough it kind of as an “investment” watch, and I’ve always been pretty detached to it emotionally, so that’s an easy decision. Batman (on oyster) however has been my first Rolex, plus I’m a frequent traveler (when there isn’t a pandemic going on) and I work a lot with clients overseas so the GMT function has been incredibly useful on many occasions. My biggest fear is that I’m trading milestone (imo) pieces which are also discontinued, for something that looks amazing but I’m not sure has the same “relevance” that hulk and Batman have (first bi-color bezel ever made and first and only color dial on a sub) and I’m also not sure how well will retain its value in the future especially compared to what i would trade to ge it. On the other hand might be a good idea do the trade now while these 2 watches are super hot and get them again or at least get the Batman down the road in a couple of years hoping the prices will go down or at least stay where they are. I know the decision ultimately is up to me, and value retention shouldn’t be the reason you get a watch over another, but it’s hard to overlook it especially nowadays. I’m curious to hear your opinion. |

The worst part of this social media-driven world we live in is the constant concern for what other people think. I know, it's been this way forever, but certainly exacerbated in the current culture.

I love Daytona but 2 solid SS pieces for an OF Daytona in this case is a no for me. Do it only if you are sure about the OF which doesn't give you the full PM experience.

From a fiscal view, all watches at retail, it makes sense if you really love and want the Daytona. On the other hand you mention milestone pieces that may have a relevance from a practical point of view. There's no science or formula for deciding on these watches. There is emotional intangible relevance to watches, also to consider is what the watches mean to you, if you are a "collector" then collectibility may be relevant or if the watch's place in the Rolex catalog or lack there of means something to you. Me personally, I really like that Daytona, but I like your two in hand better. I mean you could even sell both on your own and come out with the Daytona and another nice Rolex....assuming at retail. Or do the BLNR plus cash....the LV would stay, even though a few years ago I traded an LV for a BLNR. Still, I would keep the two. Good luck. |

^^thats my opinion as well. Milestone piece? Relevance? It’s a watch! Buy what you enjoy wearing. It’s 2020 and your phone is more accurate than any of them, they are all “irrelevant”.

Your giving up a lot. I have the Batman and 2 black Subs. Not a Daytona or Hulk fan so the only advice I can give is the same old "Buy what you love" which is always the best advice.

Sounds like you like the Daytona. Make the trade and experience something new. You are obviously thinking about something that you like and don’t have. Don’t worry about future..... none of us know the future.

Flip the LVc and add cash for the Daytona OF. Keep the BLNR.

To be clear with what I mean with “relevance” to me the history of the watch is very important, more than any Instagram hype that might be going on this month or the next one.
I work in arts so when something has a story attached to it, to me it becomes even more special, on top of that the Batman was the first watch that made me go I WANT THAT WATCH, so I never bought any of my watches cause of hype, even the hulk, I Looove the way it looks and altho i m emotionally detached to it, every time I wear it I simply can’t stop looking at it. Daytona OF wouldn’t be buying into the hype either , cause as far as I know isn’t hyped at all, just something I really like. It’s just a little hard to overlook some of the cons, 2 watches for one, not being able to use it as a daily watch plus the previously mentioned reasons. Or I can just buy it without selling the two SS |

If you wear both and like to rotate them, I wouldn't do it. Better make sure its the one watch you'll love.

I would say yes but then again I'll be influencing your decision. I just think it's more about what you love and feel comfortable with.

Precious metal is totally a different experience. I too will be trading my SS pieces for a white gold on oyster flex. Granted a white gold doesn’t Yield 10k worth of actual gold; however, anyone with a oysterflex Daytona will concur its a gorgeous watch to own. You’ll be the final judge after all but I’m totally supportive of your decision.

Only you can decide what you want. I took advantage of the hype and sold my BLNR for $13k and used that cash to get into my 519LN. At the time I had a Hulk and the BLNR. Hulk is still with me. Love the 519LN, wasn’t attached to the BLNR and got great money for it.

They are both a dime a dozen. If you want one, you can buy it back. It would be different if you paid $15-20k each and they’ve now worth $5k. But you’ll probably regret selling your first one if it was in recognition of a milestone.

FWIW (and yes, buy what you love), I wouldn't do it for the OF; however, I WOULD do it for the full monty (gold bracelet)

I would flip both for a DD40 or a 116618LB.
Those 2 watches are the ONLY one someone needs for life. |

If the Daytona will be your one and only after the trade....I’d think long and hard about that. The Daytona is fantastic, but you may miss the option to rotate/Change it up a bit. Unless you have other pieces. That said...the Daytona with OF and ceramic bezel, makes for a great daily wear, if you want to wear YG PM daily. If there’s a way to trade sub + cash, I’d definitely go that route first.

You can always buy another Batman (although on jubilee). That watch has a loooong way ahead still.
Keep the LV and buy the WG OF Daytona. One day you can buy another Batman if you miss it. Then you have the hulk on the oyster bracket, the batman on jubilee and Daytona on OF. That’s what I’d do and have all bases covered. |

If there is no cash involved here and you really want the Daytona, then financially this is a huge victory for you - anyone on this thread who disagrees just needs to do the math.
