what have you added and / or taken away from your collection?
with the year nearly over soon (phew!) how has your collection changed this year?
for me it’s been a very quiet year with nothing added, so over to you... thank you for reading. |

I was in danger of going the whole of 2020 without acquiring any new watches.
But an impromptu look in the window of my local AD last weekend, and subsequently walking out with a Tudor BB58 'blue' put paid to that. I am now looking to dispose of my Black Bay Heritage burgundy as I've come to the point in my collecting when it really has to be one watch in, one watch out.. |

Initial plan is to add the JLC master calendar but another AD called and offered my grail DblueJC and the last one is the seiko5SF Ryu. Expensive year indeed.

Traded away...a 116520, 16710, 116400, 1680.
Picked up...VC 4500v, AP 15703, 216570, 16660 (birth year that I have been after for years), Tudor Pelagos LHD. Needless to say the collection changed quite a bit this year. Looking to get a BLNR next year after I catch my breath.

We saved so much by canceling all our travel plans and locking down, by July I bought my “Pandemic watch”, 116613LB from a grey on Chrono 24...

My wife kicked off the year with this.
It was more random than by design. Helen wanted an OP Grape so we wandered into the AD to ask what the situation was. We were not expecting to walk out with one and we were in the process of leaving the store having asked to be listed, when we bumped into the Rolex buyer who dug it out of the safe for her. We had no idea that the model was about to be discontinued. Good catch My collection grew by this It was supposed to arrive in 2022 but came very shortly after the OP Grape. The AD said I could skip and have the next one but the money was already set aside, so I took it. The Z-Blue went, but only as far as my wife's collection. Helen as always loved my Z-Blue and if I'm honest it looks better on her. I was genuinely sad to part with it, even though it wasn't leaving the house. But it wasn't getting much wrist time and Helen adores it. Before I could give her the Z-Blue it needed a repair. It stopped in February. We were about to go abroad so planned getting it in for repair in late March or April. When we finally got back after being stranded, everything was shut. When the AD reopened I went in by appointment to give them the Z-Blue. They had just opened their first post shut down, rather large, Rolex consignment and were phoning around. I asked very nicely if there was any chance of a SS BLRO and almost fainted when he vanished and reappeared with a coffin. My heart rate doubled when I caught a glimpse of the Jubilee bracelet but quickly returned to normal when a BLNR emerged. I had promised myself that at some stage I would get the TT white Sky Dweller, having fallen in live with it off the back of buying a SS black one, and having convinced myself that I must have a TT to go with it. My AD usually gets TT Sky Dwellers in rotation. They had a black one at the end of 2018, a champagne one in 2019, and sure enough, had just received a white one. Unexpected but irresistible. I also added this because I have a bit of a thing for Bamford, although I haven't bought one of their custom jobs (yet). With the exception of the TT CHNR, which was expected but came in much earlier, none of the rest of it was meticulously planned. Things just fell this way. The rest of this year and 2022 will be comparatively quiet. I want to move two non Rolex watches out and buy a Monaco Calibre 11. It's a mystery to me that I have never owned one. Helen has a white one. Past that, I am now listed for the SS BLRO and it will turn up when it turns up. It might be years. I'm also beginning to hanker after a PM Rolex, but it is easier for me to resist expenditure at this level. Particularly when I have so many nice watches already. |
