guys,is it necessary to have tubes in the straps for the newer models with the quick strap change systems?

Good question Louie, I've been of the same mindset and curious as well. Tubes are used to prevent the leather from grabbing the screws and backing them out. Doesn't apply on the new quick change system.

All I can say is that if it might even help, I'll keep using them.
Imagine your $$$$$ watch dropping on the floor b/c the screw back out. I'm using them.

I'm saying if it only helps a little, I'll use them. I'm not talking about the watch being jerked off my wrist, but slowing being unscrewed by your leather strap.

Tubes seems to make it easier to get the pin through smoothly and without knicking up the side of the case as it seems to help it all line up easier.

Understood. They are there for an added feature.
Are they 100% needed? - NO. Do I use them? - YES I'm just letting people know what there original purpose was for. It was even more critical historically as the screws used to be on both sides of the lugs.

I am using the tubes... Unless just swapping straps for pics. Any and all extra protection is fine with me!

My AD finally came up with the OEM leather strap for my 161, when they went to fit it I asked about the tubes (as I had seen you guys talking about them on here) and they looked at me blankly and said they never fit them. Strap seems to be fine but there is definately some play over the pins, so I could probably fit some tubes?

I'd stick with the tubes even on the quick change system - i tried a strap without just to see how it felt and had the tubes back on within 2 mins! Just didnt feel right as there was play/movement over the pins, also makes it easier to guide the pin in as others have mentioned earlier.

Hmm i use them on the Lum,s but take them out obviously for the Rad's so the tubes dont strain to much on the bend part, but that is just me. on the Lums i use them on the quick change and the screws.
