wearing gold watches

I was thinking about getting a vintage gold triple chronograph watch. I wanted to use it as my every day watch, but then I started to wonder if a gold watch is too fancy to wear as an every day watch. I guess if you dress business casual everyday, then you wouldn't have a problem. But I'm more of jeans and tshirt kind of a guy. Not sure if a gold watch would clash with that type of attire.

If you start wearing Hawaiian floral print t-shirts, it will be a good way forward for you.

Ha. I think that could work.

On a serious note, the smaller vintage sizes work really well as a yellow or rose gold daily wearer. 36mm on a man's wrist works as well now as it did decades ago and it doesn't stand out in the same way (although in the wrong neighborhood, I would still avoid it).

Thanks for mentioning that. That was another point that I was struggling with a little bit. I have a 40mm stainless watch that I wear on a regular basis. Switching to a 36mm watch is something that I was struggling with. I was concerned that it might be too small. With that being said, I kind of like smaller watches. I know that it's not currently in fashion, and that larger watches are all the rage, but a smaller watch is not as heavy, it doesn't get dinged on things as much (your wrist takes most of the abuse instead of the watch) and, to me, it looks a little more sophisticated I suppose.

Another thing I was thinking is that, being a product of the 90s and the grunge revolution, I have always donned that type of attire. Unfortunately, Kurt Cobain is long gone and not coming back anytime soon, so maybe it's time to adjust the wardrobe finally?

The 2000s and 2010s, in my opinion, have not expressed any significant ideas in fashion. Tight jeans and yoga pants do not qualify as a fashion statement in my book. I won't get into automobile styles and music of the past 2 decades, as it has been essentially a wasteland IMHO. So with that being said, perhaps I should just start my own sense of a renewed style?

If I get this gold chronograph watch, maybe I should adjust my wardrobe to accommodate it? I think the Hawaiian shirt idea, although comical, is somewhat ingenious. It would dress it down. I was also watching Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee yesterday with Jerry Seinfeld. He seems to don a business casual look most often, consisting of a blazer, dress shirt, jeans and sneakers. It works well for him. The only thing I'm wondering is if that would go with a dress watch. It might not. He usually wears a stainless steel Brietling. SS goes with anything really. A gold watch might make that look a little too dressy. How to dress down a gold watch.... Hmmm.

Getting back to Kurt Cobain, if he wore a gold chronograph with his famous drab green cardigan, I don't know. It might work out:

Would not clash IMO. Gold watch might actually elevate the simple and comfy jeans and t-shirt outfit.

Yes, you might be right. Might not be a problem afterall. I'm probably over-thinking it all.

This is interesting. Looks like Cobain also had a yellow mohair cardigan. I guess that means he had a mohair fetish. Wasn't just some random thing that he picked up in an army navy store:

I think with coloured gold it’s all about size and then whether it’s on a bracelet or strap. If I was ever to go full coloured gold it would need to be 36mm or something similar (think the classic Day Date). On a strap the same watch almost becomes invisible I think, which isn’t a bad thing.

I wouldn’t hesitate on the 36mm, unless you have bear wrists in which case it may look a little small !

^ I agree. Ive tried larger gold watches because i typically wear at least a 42mm for my build. 36mm is as big as i would go if it has a matching bracelet. just my $.02

You can wear it with anything, basically no one will care or notice. I would suggest a vintage DJ in gold with matching bracelet.

Is this because the gold makes the watch look larger because of the lighter color?

Subjective and just an opinion but yeah. And we all know in most places it just catches eyes (often the wrong the ones).
