Nope. Wearing my Rosegold Daytona at the moment. I've only been a little worried once when. I was downtown Portland after hours at a watch get together. Had to walk about 10 blocks back to the parking garage. I think I was wearing a vintage SUBMARINER and kept my hand over my wrist. That was the only time I've ever worried. . ..

No. Doesn’t matter how big you are. Don’t believe me? Go watch what Jack Dempsey did to poor Jess Willard or what Max Baer did to Primo Carnera. There’s always someone tougher than you are and size has little to do with it

every one's circumstance is different. someone may be living in a relatively safe neighborhood, and can happily say that they feel safe wearing their watches.

in these cases, just go with your gut. don't risk your safety and expensive watch just because some stranger in the forums tells you it's 'safe'.

Are you sure it's not because you are 6'3 and 330? Haha
I'm also well above average in stature and it doesn't help..watch or not it seems

Yeah it’s not something you can wear without feeling like you’re going to be jumped any second. I got rid of all the bling for that very reason. Not worth it. And no fun enjoying them at home.

The average Joe out in public can't tell a 30K watch from a $30 watch, so no i have no reservations wearing my 116618LB.

It’s a funny thing but I’ve always worn my better watches up under shirt sleeves. I like the watches because I like them and don’t want to show them off. This summer I wore them all with t shirts but we have been stuck at home because of COVID so nobody was watching lol...

True. But that's not the crowd OP is concerned about. It really come down to the crowd that understands watched and targets people. I get your point that the same crowd will target a precious metal rolex or a vintage regardless.

Do you ever feel like a target wearing an all GOLD Rolex

Obviously people notice a yellow or rose gold watch. The replies on here saying it’s not noticed are delusional. It might not be noticed by everyone, but it’s noticed. By both men and women, by rich WIS and by poor hungry thieves. By waiters at a restaurant, by your employees at your job. It’s noticed. It’s called “bling” for a reason. Serious delusions on here from people saying a gold watch isn’t noticed.

Do I feel like a target? It depends where I am. What neighborhood and time of day. My watch is insured. I am not worried about my watch being stolen, I do worry if the bling of my watch makes me a target for my wallet and phone being stolen with it.

I don’t wear a yellow or rose gold watch if I think I am going to be in a rougher neighborhood or when traveling to countries where it would feel risky. If unexpectedly in a place one is not comfortable and wearing short sleeves, put it in your pocket.

I’m just average size, and I usually go places where I feel safe, like restaurants and bars in and around Bloomfield Ave in Montclair

Yes, I've referenced this in several different threads over the past few months. Though I regret selling it now, the fact it was commented on so often by strangers is why I parted with my smurf. Maybe we are hypervigilant since my wife and I were both LEO for 20 years, but we felt like I was making us an unnecessary target. This kinda took the fun out of wearing it.

I laugh at the "no one notices your watch" comments. In my opinion, more people notice than you think and second, it only takes one to notice and ruin your day. I notice peoples watches all the time, but they go home that day thinking no one noticed their watch. That's just my take on the issue, I know TRF is all about arguing now days, so to each their own.

To clarify my above post, I bought my gold watches expect (and to be honest wanting) attention for them. So my comments about them not being noticed definitely do not come from a desire to have them not be.

With that said, I always insure everything for a worst case scenario, I don’t worry too much.

Eh! they get noticed, but I’ve never been in fear that someone will try and take it!

More like- “wow, is that real? Or nice watch!”

But Sydney is pretty safe.

As others have stated, it depends a lot on where you are. In HK, wearing higher end watches is so common, especially Rolex. You're far more likely to come across someone with an even nicer watch than you on the street or in the store than be noticed or targeted.

Of course there are the occasional store robberies or f2f deal gone south in a rural area, but by and large you're totally fine. I really don't think twice about it here day to day.

I have several Rolex/Cartier gold watches. I wear long sleeves most of the times, and if suspicious situations around, then I cover it.

I live in NW Washington DC, and one has to be careful as a lot going on these days. But I wear them.

You never know who is eyeing your watch (shoes, etc.) and now these individuals drive cars and mug in DC...so just be careful....

I grew up in what you would call the "hood" areas when I was younger. I rock all my gold Rolex's in less desirable suburbs ALL the time. I actually spend ALOT of my time in the "hood" areas because that's where I grew up and that is where a lot of my friends are.

Honestly I feel so safe in these areas the thought doesn't even cross my mind at all. Look I'm not a softy or not someone that ppl can easily take advantage off even though I'm not that big but growing up in these areas have instilled a bit of self awareness and "don't take crap from anyone" mentality which also helps I guess.

If you are a soft target (and lets not beat around the bush, you yourself will know whether you look like a soft and easy target or not) then just be aware of your surroundings. 99% of the time it will be perfectly fine.

This is me most weekends rocking my gold pieces in shorts, runners and a t shirt - going around seeing the boys in the more shady areas of the city. Not a single drama.

I don’t have an all gold Rolex, but people do notice watches

I walked into a bicycle shop the other day, and a kid that looked to be 18 years of age said “how can I help you sir? Nice watch by way.”

I said “hi, I’m sorry I didn’t hear what you said.”

(I actually didn’t)

And he said “I said nice watch, that’s a Speedmaster correct?”

“Oh! Yeah, thanks man.”

So people do notice.

Anyway, back to your question...

Yeah.

Sometimes I feel odd.

I don’t know where all of the guys on this forum live; that they see many Rolex and Patek watches on the street

On my side of town you don’t see many fine watches, though I’ve spotted a few.

It depends where I’m at, and what time

But sometimes I have become nervous, specially around shady individuals

You have to realize, someone can rob you, sell your watch for a few thousand, and buy a car

The bigger they are the harder they fall!

I wear my 6075 just to special occasions, so I'm never too concerned - just concious.

If you're finding yourself worried regularly, maybe wear a Casio or something similar in risky areas.

As much as we like to think people notice and gawk at our expensive watches, they really don't.

Every glare a stranger makes towards our wrist we think "omg he was definitely checking out the watch" - no he wasn't.

The only people that look are other fanatics watch fanatics. I almost always try to identify what kind of watch people are wearing, just for the fun of it.

I love watches and I always enjoy seeing what type of people wear what type of watches, how they are dressed etc. What watch is my lawyer wearing? My doctor? etc.. I find it very fascinating.

My lawyer by the way wears a 1940's 34mm Swiss made watch (can't remember the model, but it's no longer in production). It was given to him by his Grandfather, my doctor wears a TT DJ36 (I mean, what else.. lol). Last week a young kid wore a GMT Master 2 while being behind the register. One of the reasons why I fell in love with the Milgauss was because I saw it on an older gentleman in a clothing store and it looked so classy.

Criminals that are out to get your watch will identify a SS model just as fast as they would see a YG Submariner. "Normal" people don't care. Every girl/guy is running around in $200 Quartz Fashion watches, very often in full YG/RG plating. They couldn't identify a $40k Rolex from a $200 Michael Kors. Most people don't even know the cost of a YG Rolex (oh wow, must be expensive, $800?)
