![]() ![]() I've the chance to take some photos on a watch that no longer belongs to me: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The following will show how 312 is much thicker when compared to my Destro Fiddy 217 & Luminor Marina 56: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More details: Movement: automatic mechanical, Panerai P. 9000 calibre, executed entirely by Panerai, 13 ¾ lignes, 7.9 mm thick, 28 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 28,800 alternations/hour. Power reserve 3 days, two barrels. Incabloc® anti-shock device. 195 components. Functions: hours, minutes, small seconds, date. Case: diameter 44 mm, AISI 316L brushed steel. Bezel: polished steel. Back: see-through sapphire crystal. Device protecting the crown: (protected as a Trademark) brushed steel. Crystal: sapphire, made from corundum, 2.6mm thick. Anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance: 300 metres. Strap: PANERAI personalised black alligator strap and large-size brushed steel buckle Personal comment: This watch is nicer than what I can express thru the photos above. The photos really cannot do justice on the thick presence without the feel & look of too thick, dial cleanliness, beauty in simplicity, balance, good function, grace, reasonable pricing & gait of this perfect model. This is indeed a milestone & watershed for Panerai. This watch is thicker than Rolex Deep Sea Dweller, thicker than Fiddy and much thicker than any Luminor Marina but the balance of the 1950 bubble shape manage to carry the thickness well & thus give this bird a very big presence on the wrist without the inhibition & intimidation. Now, due to such a thick case thanks to a very thick movement, the watch cannot use a tall crystal ala 233, 270 or Fiddy. Bear in mind, the thickness of: 312: 18.15mm Deep-Sea: 17.68mm 233: 17.75mm 0 / 5 / 111 / 112/ 176 / 177: 16.65mm 270: 18.75mm I personally think if they use domed shape sapphire on this 312, it’ll be totally outta shape. The slightly domed crystal as shown by some photos above compliment really well with the already thick case on this new legend in the making. The last thing we want to see is 312 that looks like a Deep-Sea. Thankfully, it's not. 312 is poised, graceful, smart & REALLY a beauty. It's a new legend from Panerai. Take note that this 312 is still thinner than a 270. So, for those who shots from the mouth telling everyone this 312 is too thick while u find 270 is not, u betta keep it to urself as I'm sure u've not seen both 312 or 270 or any 187, 202, 194, 243 and 285 in flesh yet. I also think these range of P900x in the form of 312, 320 & 321 will cause Rolex to worry bout their Deep Sea, Sub-Date, Sub, Explorer 2 & GMT2 mart share erosion. These new 2009 range of 312, 320 & 321 from OP will be Rolex killa. This is my personal take. If u r not happi with this, I couldn't care. I've been hooked by Panerai for good. |

Great job!!! Huge congrats too!!!
BTW I heard some Guys don't really like the thick of the watch. Can't sit right in the wrist, is that true? Do you think Panerai made this model because they want to competition with Deepsea? |

Thanks so much for sharing those great photos and review.
I really like the look of this new model. It is 44mm isn't it? or is it 47mm? Anyway, congrats. ![]()

Good point to bring up...I had a PAM 252 that i just couldn't live with the thickness of the case...no matter how beautiful it was in person..it just wouldn't sit right on my wrist...

Fred, thank you for taking the time to post your photos and review. These are the best photos I've seen to date, and really capture the beauty of the 312.

Thickness is well hidden....u got to try this on to really appreciate the genius
Quote:
The secret lies in the super-domed back case. Here, the super-domed back-case fit snugly between ur wrist bones & under ur skin. The bone on ur wrist touches the domed back-case perfectly & this prevent the whole watch from falling sideways due to the weight & this enhance the presence of this great watch without prevent without any discomfort. This is a hallmark of great egronomics design. Yes, all this while, all watchmakers are gunning for Rolex's crown... |

U got to try it...there's a pleasant surprise
The cue & clue on how 312 pull off this feat lies in the super-domed bottom...

I am alwasys impressed to read again that the 233 is thicker than the Deep See...
Originally I thought the 312 would have 4,000 pieces - then I heard that it is going to be half that - 2,000 pieces. If that's true... The 312 might be another one of those difficult to get pieces...

Fred! one of the nicest photos i've seen..thx
btw the thickness of the watches are not including the crystals right? if so the 312 would have thicker case including the case back? i know the 270 is slightly thicker than 312, is it because of the crystal being domed or case it self is thinker which makes 270 looks way taller with its domed crystal..? |

You are contradicting yourself...if for you "watches are just watches"...you would not be here on this site waisting your time!
We are all watches lovers!!! Fortunately or unfortunately... The reason why I am here my self is to read people's opinion and experiences and...especially knowledge about haute horlogerie! I love your taste and your statements about Panerai...but I will never compare the two brands! I am glad Panerai turn to manufacture...(before they use to do boxing only)!!! But Panerai have also weak points!!! just like Rolex!!! People go crazy right now on Panerai...It is just a trends! There is a lot of fantastic watches out there beside Rolex and Panerai! I hope you will experience them one day! ![]() |

It's just my freaking believe. If you think Panerai is not a better brand than Rolex, so be it. If I think Rolex is a stupid brand, then that's is my personal conviction & believe. If you don't like what I think, go play with yourself.... |
