Consequences of not servicing a vintage Rolex?
Hi all! I recently acquired my first Rolex! It's a vintage 1603 DateJust. I've noticed that the seconds hand between about ~2 and ~6 can get a little stutter-y, more-so than I expect a low beatrate movement to look like. I'm planning on taking it to a local specialist in my area this weekend to get it looked at and discuss servicing (the jubilee band also needs tightening).
In the meantime, do you think there's any issue with me wearing it? I'm sure it just needs some lubrication or something, but I don't want to destroy any of the parts by having it running and scraping together. In the scheme of the watch's life, I suppose a week isn't much, but I'm still nervous. |

You won't destroy any parts that cannot be replaced - that's the point with an overhaul/service.

the thing is that if one part in the movement is damaged, it will damage other parts....

recommendations
Hello and welcome,
prior to proceeding with any work post a few pictures, vintage Rolexes require the right person to undertake any repair works, the go to place to restore the bracelet would be Rolliworks, you'll find plenty of recommendations of their work, don't be afraid to shout for guidance, finally most will advise not to send it to Rolex. as there's no rush take your time and gain more information and recommendations ![]()

You won't really know what is needed until a watchmaker breaks down the movement and carefully inspects the parts. It's quite possible that worn parts will need to be replaced if the watch hasn't been serviced in a long time.

It'll be fine for short term wear, I waited about 6 months before servicing my 1603.
