I still have lots of unanswered questions. This is a 5.3M serial (1978is) so closed "6", feet-first is correct? I believe bezel to be original but was hoping for opinions. Hands, crown, and date disk look good to me but was hoping for opinions. To my eye, the case looks pretty distressed and a couple of the lugs rather thin, but perhaps that's typical?

5 o clock lug is polished right up to the spring bar hole. 7 o clock lug looks much better. It must be very asymmetrically polished - I’d walk.

The dial and hands look clean. Seems patina matches. Date wheels seems good. I can’t tell if it is a early insert or not but judging by what I can see it seems not.
I agree the case is worn and that thin lug will be a problem earlier than later but if you get it for a great price you could get the gold work done. But if your paying within the going rate then I’d look for another.

May need some better photos.

Having shown this pic to a well known "case refinisher", he's of the view it may be a 'bit too far gone'.

Do you know when the blue/gold insert was used, versus the blue/silver type as seen here?

Thanks for the feedback though @BigBlue1. Very helpful.

The early ones had the silver font such as this one here, but it’s hard for me to tell if the numbers are the length of the insert from edge to edge or shorter than the length of the bezel. Also I can’t tell if your pearl is set in gold or not. I am just having trouble and am on my phone to be able to tell. It almost seems metal to me though.

It looks beautiful though. The blue dial and strap really POP. Definitely a scotch would compliment the watch.

The numerals appear to stretch the full with of the insert and the pip does not appear to have any ring at all around it. As best I can tell, it looks right. But I'd defer to more experienced owners.

If that's your observation than it sounds right, Peal has patina close to dial and hands.
