Seiko surprisingly .. not that I am sure if that should be surprising they are very well made watches for their respective price points. Also it catches lume a lot easier than the sub

This is interesting, and perhaps someone may be able to answer this. My Sub from 1973 has the usual creamy lume and is very weak. A have a Seiko diver of the same age and its lume is nice and clean and lasts longer when exposed to a similarly strong light. Even my early 60s Tudor reacts better than the Sub. All three are original. Why is the Sub’s lume so weak? Ps: I love it though, and would never mess with it.

I also own one Rolex and one Seiko, a Prospex diver (Dawn Gray). I love the Chromalite on my Sub, but must admit the lume on my Seiko lasting longer and brighter.. at least I think so. I haven’t done and actual testing, and the Rolex is good enough tell the time in a dark room, but I swear, I could read a book off my Seiko.

Seiko's proprietary Lumibrite is very impressive. I've come close to buying an SKX007 just for the insane lume. I can never get past the 4 o'clock crown though. And I won't pay over about 100 quid for any Seiko with the crown in the right place. Which it seems I would have to.

I had a SKX007

Lume was awesome, and generally a great watch

But rate was so erratic that it became annoying

I use to be pretty big into Seikos back in the day and have been looking at them again lately. My wife just bought me the perfect one for me for Christmas (Prospex Diver).

I recall the lume being pretty good on them in the past, but the lume in this current one exceeds what my Rolexes do for sure. It tends to last a lot longer as well. A lot of lume threads pertaining to Rolex I’ve really wondered what the big deal was as it really doesn’t last long. The Seiko lume is much more useful and impressive in my opinion, seems to charge fast and lasts for a while longer than the Rolex as far as I can tell.

Seiko is known for its great lume, across the range, and Rolex is known for being less than impressive in this regard. Even a cheap SKX diver will outshine and outlast a Rolex in my experience.

I love the lume on my only Seiko. After wearing it for a while then switching to the Sub, I wondered why the lume on the sub wasn’t as jaw dropping. When wearing other watches then switching to the sub, I’m amazed by how awesome it it is. It’s all relative I guess.

this is good, one thing I think makes Seiko look brighter is surface area

You should give it a try. I have a Seiko diver with the crown at 4 o'clock and LOVE it! Until you wear it, it's hard to understand why but it is so comfortable! I never realized that I could feel the crown dig in a little with other watches when at the 3 o'clock. With it at 4 o'clock you can flex your wrist all you want but never touch the crown. Much easier to pull out and wind when on the wrist. It's form over function, although I think it actually looks pretty cool too!

Seiko is famous for outstanding lume. I have the Turtle and the 009. Love the 009.

If the 009 was 40mm and had a 20mm lug width and a more reliable movement with hand winding and hacking I would regard this as the PERFECT dive watch, even over the Sub.

What about the Seiko's lume vs the Explorer I lume? I hear the lume on the ExpI is incredible!

Seiko

It's all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconveniences we have to deal with.
