I chose a Tudor over Rolex

Am I crazy ? I turned down an Explorer for the Tudor BB58 blue. Was on a wait list for the Explorer, got the call but respectfully declined. Already have a DJ41 black dial with smooth bezel on an Oyster bracelet that I love and the Explorer just seemed to be too similar, almost redundant. Saw the BB58 blue in person and am now head over heels enamored with the watch. Best blue in a watch I’ve ever seen and I’m going to purchase one as soon as it arrives at my AD.
Been a lot of posts recently discussing Tudor as a “poor mans” Rolex but that can’t be further than the truth. I believe Tudor offers the best value/quality combination available. Rolex is great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s impossible for me to ignore what Tudor brings to the market and I’m all in.

Fallen lumepips, dusty dials, misprinted boxes, misaligned bezels amongst other things. But hey if you love the watch, roll with it.
But please don't suggest that it's somehow a better watch. It may have a better design or a style that appeals to you more.

Tudor is currently what Rolex was a decade back. Today's Tudor are as solid as Rolex besides the upgraded luxury parts!

The Tudor GMT movement is a train wreck.

According to Tudor, yes.
According to the movement, no.
Let's give them a few more years.

OP BB58 is a beautiful watch. I've been saying it for a while and another poster made the comment that Tudor is now where Rolex was 10 years ago. They are producing tool watches whereas Rolex sports watches now resemble pieces of jewelry imho.

You will love it

I'd have chosen the BB58 over the Explorer, too

i tried to love the BB58 but sold both the black and blue version, they are good looking watches but not the same level as Rolex IMHO

BB58 blue is a beauty but the best blue us the smurf hands down. I would've chosen the explorer however but hey you do you. Congrats.

You turned down an explorer for a Tudor and call yourself crazy? what would you call me if I tell you that I turned down a BLRO for Tudor's GMT? NUTS?
You're not crazy man, I suppose you did it because you liked me more, that's exactly what happened to me when I saw the BB-GMT on that Sienan leather strap, I saw it unique, vintage, stylish, less blingy. I also liked it because it have a better fit on my wrist due to its bigger case. This does not means it's better than the BLRO it's just better for me.

As a Rolex fan of 25+ years i too dipped my toe in the Tudor pool and bought a BB58 which arrived Tuesday its on the nato and i have bought a Vanguard blue rubber which looks great..

I bought the Tudor to wear as a daily do everything watch as well i feel less worried about it taking lifes wear and tear....daft yes but im ocd about condition..

2 days on wrist and i can genuinely say its exceeded expectation its a nice size not top heavy and its incredibly legible and has superb lume...and it feels kinda vintage modern and the blue is a refreshing change from my many black dials..

Quality I have heard some stories and would also be dissatisfied if i had bought a defective early GMT...but having inspected closely I can’t find anything so far to moan about at the price point..case is very well finished as is bezel and dial it precisely detailed and a good solid bezel click.

No its not a Rolex, I didn’t expect it to be its a Tudor ...just like a BMW is not a Porsche...

Is it as good as a 124060 no I don’t think it is and the Rolex feels more substantial more special, but is the Tudor a solid alternative option to say a Seamaster 300 or IWC Aquatimer ? Absolutely......

I can wear my BB58 in peace. That is all I need to live with. My turn of the century Rolex is almost stressful to wear since if it gets wrecked there is no replacement and the newer models don't have the same build quality.

BB58 is a very nice and hot watch at this moment. But I would have got the EXI.

Like what you like. Buy what you like. You don't need to justify it or rationalise it. Congratulations in advance,

If you think you are crazy you probably are not. Crazy people tend not to know they are crazy.

Great question and in this case it would still be the Tudor.

Are you crazy for purchasing any one particular watch over the other...nope. It just means you made a decision. The question is do you regret it? If not, then congratulations and wear it in good health

I would have got the Exp, sold the DJ and then got the BB58 Blue. The DJ and BB58 are always going to be far easier to get than most DJ’s. I have an Exp 39mm and BB58 Blue by the way.

I think you are wrong. I have purchased three Tudor watches in the last two years and one Rolex and believe the build quality is as good as current Rolex models and better than my 16710 from 2002.

I was on the waiting list for the blue tudor 58 and one of the ADs had the blue omega railmaster on sale for about £150 more than the blue tudor 58. I pulled the trigger on the omega and don't regret it one bit, I eventually tried on the 58 and hated the cheap looking rivets on the bracelet and the lume pip on the bezel looks like a nipple. If it was between the explorer or 58 then definitely explorer

You're talking about Rolex watches there too right? Because that happens with both brands :)

@OP I think you would have chosen the Explorer over the BB58 if you didn't already own an OP.

Tudor is a great watch, but it's no replacement for a Rolex. BUT if you already own a Rolex, then Tudor can certainly be a better option than adding another Rolex to the collection.

Point of view from someone with a few Tudors and a few Rolexes.

It’s the better choice between the two. It’s a much better looking watch. They keep better time too.
