Agony choosing between the new steel sub vs. the bluesy

I'm loosing sleep as I have an terribly difficult decision to make in the few weeks ahead. It's really an decision where the heart says one thing, and the mind said another.

My heart says that the new Submariner Date 126613LB bluesy is pure beauty, the blue sunburst dial, the beautiful hue of the yellow gold rolesor and the constant shifting tones of the blue bezel keeps coming back to me and attracting my to it.

My brain however, says that the PCL-links will be terribly hard to keep tidy, the flashy gold will make it very difficult to stay under the radar att formal situations, and not to disregard - the value retention and potential value appreciation will be inferior to the SS 126610LN.

Even though my heart also beats an extra beat for the SS, it much less palpable then the volts that the bluesy cause...

So my friends, please weigh in here - both watches are available for me (albeit the SS closer to summer, and the bluesy in a few weeks time) at list. What should I listen the most to, my heart or my brain?

I would always listen to the heart. Many a time the decision the brain makes leads to a watch for sale on the forums.

I have the CHNR TT, and I can tell you that yes - the gold will get scratches. It is the nature of the metal but many make it seem like it's made of butter. It's not. I constantly wear mine and the hairlines are there, but only YOU will notice them. No one else. I am asked often if I am wearing a new watch when they see it.

Also, the TT can be flashy in some situations, but I do not think it is in your face. I have a full yellow gold Day-Date that actually slides under the radar in formal situations. The TT Sub is going to do just fine.

Also, please do not think of value when deciding a watch. Value could tank in an instant, or rise with the latest discontinuation release from the brand. We don't know - so just buy it to enjoy it.

You got this - go with the heart.

Awesome... but it’s not my daily (and I don’t wear if I’m on the laptop). Pair it with jeans or a blue shirt on the weekend.

LN is more of a daily... but if you already have a bunch of SS and/or black dials... time to go BLUE!

I had the opportunity to try on a new 41 bluesy recently and it was nothing short of gorgeous. I think you should follow your heart on this one OP!

I had one on a few weeks before christmas, stunning on the wrist, really stunning. But as you said certainly not inconspicuous. Not for me as I am very conservative.

But if you like it get it, the LN will always be the LN.

If you try on the LB you will probably buy it.

But do not not try it on or you will never know (apologies for the grammar but you know what I mean)

With watches, always go with the heart, sounds like the LB is the one for you.
Worst case scenario, if you find it too flashy as a daily, you can always pick up the LN in the summer and sell the LB.

Heads Bluesy, Tails LN, toss it and your mind will tell you which side you want it to land before it even lands.

I've had both and currently don't own the LB but am considering replacing it again given the chance at retail. That being said, both are awesome but from reading your post it seems like you want the Bluesy but your concerned about it flying under the radar or what others may think. Don't give that a second thought. Get it - get it right away! :)

Buy both, wear both and flip the one you like less. Best of all worlds and make a couple bucks while deciding.

Get the Bluesy which will help you get a harder SS model in the future.. Ease your heart and make a brain move. Also in a couple of years the Discontinued 40 Sub will be the one to have, try to get it cheaper now if you really like a black Sub

Sounds like you like the bluesy. I’d say get that. It’ll bring more FOMO than the LN if you don’t.

You already have a Sub LN (based on signature) and you obviously love the new LB.

Not sure what you're losing sleep over, seems like an easy decision to me.

Always go with your heart in this game.

Your head will play games with you and you’ll end up going with what the heart wants in the end

I wrestled with this a couple years ago and bought the Bluesy. That said - I don't know if I would do the same today. Why's that?

A SS sub (date or no-date) is such a classic piece. The longer you hang around the Rolex or watch world you'll probably get a really strong desire to acquire one. It's like being into sports cars and owning a Corvette or 911.

In my case I bought the Bluesy after having purchased a DJ41 a few months prior and didn't really understand what it meant to own a submariner. Don't get me wrong I loved the Bluesy at the time (and still do) - I just didn't understand at the time what a SS sub really meant.

Just something to think about...also fwiw the Bluesy "should" always be something you can get without too long of a wait.

I wore my Bluesy for 18 years as a daily, doing everything with it. Never gave it a second thought and the only time I noticed scratches was after I had it serviced last year. It came back like new and now it’s in a rotation with a SubC 40 and YM.
I think the flashy concern is more a self conscious thing personally. I can only remember a couple times where my watch was noticed and it was by other Rolex owners.
I agree to go with your heart...

I've had both. The brain won out. The bluesy was just too flashy and had to go.

Sure, go with ur heart.

But sometimes ur head tricks the heart into thinking it’s true love... when it’s just a crazy fling. Lol

Make sure the bluesy is not a short-term and costly affair.

I believe people should wear what they want and not care so much what others think.

But, Do u really believe ur watch was not noticed?
I am pretty sure ur bluesy was noticed every time. Lol
But only few mentioned it to u.

My AD offered a new Bluesy to me before Christmas, it was so hard to pass on it. I always love it and will get one later on at some point.

You can't go wrong with either. If you can swing, get both. I have a SS, TT, and YG subs and love them all. If you can only have 1, I'd go for the bluesy. It's dresses up and down with ease and that dial is stunning in the sunlight. Good luck and happy hunting.

I agree with most people's advice here to go with your heart. Not your head. Which one are you more excited about??

And don't worry about hairline sctarches! You have to get over that.

I love my bluesy for sure but wouldn’t have it as a daily. In my collection it is a rockstar and it definitely adds color, but doesn’t go with everything in my closet.

Lol...very possible, but since I wasn’t self conscious I never gave it a thought. There are so many wearing huge fashion pieces that perhaps these get lost in the crowd
In any case, I’m not a flashy person and it just never felt like it stood out...an AP on the other hand...

Bluesy. You get use to the scratches after a few days. Great watch and it’s the one you want, so get it!
