New to Rolex!

Just bought my husband a Rolex to celebrate his retirement next fall.
Thank you for the add to this group, first time Rolex purchaser!
Bought a new Datejust.
He had better be HAPPY!

MY QUESTION: Any great ideas on presentation? Spending this kind of money on his gift, the presentation has to be PERFECT! We will be doing a small gathering with friends for dinner, but may wait till home to give it to him.

Ideas welcome!

Get a custom Rolex cake and put the watch inside lol. Congrats, lucky husband there.

Congrats to both of you - the Datejust is hard to beat. Rolex is so renowned for quality and luxury that it will steal the show all by itself. Just present it in the iconic green box. The watch will do the rest when he opens it.

Since you are having dinner with friends, I would have the waiter bring it out under a covered silver serving tray, and then lift the cover to reveal the watch. Just an idea.

Congratulations to your husband and to you for your thoughtful gift!

Purchase him a blue or green Rolex ball cap, let him open it with another roandom gift. Let him ponder "why a hat" during dinner. Then give it to him for dessert.

I would say present it before. He may like to wear it for dinner with your close friends and let people notice it. and not to mention show off what a wonderful wife he has.

First, welcome and congratulations, your husband is a very lucky man.

Second, I wouldn’t worry too much about the presentation, I think the gift will be more then enough and he will be very very happy.

Lastly, I am thinking of the only watch my Ex wife bought me.... A Casio....

Do you happen to have a single sister that is attracted to short, fat-ugly men with no money or personality?

I know everyone means well, but please, don't do anything involving food, or cake, or champagne spray, lol. How about getting him the book 'A Man & His Watch', (Amazon has it in stock), wrap both separately, and surprise him with both. Regards, -Rick.

The Datejust is one of Rolex icons with a long history that makes a good part in any Rolex related book.
I would buy him a book about Rolex as a present, give him the book first then put hints inside that book “Datejust page for example” that leads to the second gift, the actual watch :-)

You are all WAY too sweet! GREAT IDEAS!
I do not have a picture.....Buying from a Rolex certified dealer (jewelry store), and I HAVE NOT SEEN IT! Sent three checks there though as I do not want hubs to catch on to a massive purchase.
Details: Datejust 41, blue dial, stick markers, Oyster bracelet, stainless. Now wishing I had done the diamonds as that is simply BEAUTIFUL! (saw it on a post on here!)
REALLY wanted a Sub for him but did not want to be on the waiting list. I am an immediate gratification kind of girl!
Kicking myself that I did not find this group sooner, as I literally picked the watch out by looks alone (emailed pics from Rolex dealer). It is in their vault for safe keeping until I pick it up (on the day of his retirement, or I will spill the beans!)
LOVE the book idea. Will order closer to the big date!
This is so exciting, thanks again for the beautiful comments and positive statements! Now I just need to keep my mouth shut!
Will stop and visit him (the watch is male in my mind) the next time I am in the city. Will 100% post a picture then!!!

I often...too often...look for the time in the dark. Don't overthink it. It's nice to have the markers with Chromalight. Diamonds shine, but they don't glow.

Thank you all again.
I called the store this morning and they took him from the box and took a pic on a salesperson's arm as requested.
HERE HE IS! The 41 Datejust!!!
Hopefully the husband will enjoy his first Rolex as his retirement gift.
Will be ordering the book soon, that will be the first gift, followed by the beautiful box. He knows nothing about Rolexes (except has mentioned in passing that he would love one some day), so hopefully he will realize how thoughtful this gift is.
Thank you all for your thoughts, and I am pretty sure he will be showing it off at dinner that night!
And....Please no negatives on my choices of model, color, options. This was a HUGE decision and a HUGE purchase and I had yet to find this group before purchasing....So I went with my gut. Classic, timeless and understated...Just like my husband!

Honestly, that is a fabulous choice of model and color in my opinion! Classic model and the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet adds just a bit of sportiness, a perfect retirement watch if I’ve ever seen one. Excellent decision!

One question. Do you have any sisters who are single and looking for a husband? Ladies who gift Rolex watches don't come by every day

Great gift, I wish you and him the best of luck

Sky Dwelling - You are HILARIOUS! Part of the gift is for his retirement, part of the is for putting up with me all of these years as I am NOT easy!

A lucky man! Such a very thoughtful and special gift -- way to go. And I share the view that presentation isn't going to be an issue or anything he remembers particularly compared to the watch and the kindness of his wonderful, loving wife. Plus, the experience of unboxing a new Rolex is pretty special in and of itself.
