Help Identify My Rolex
I recently purchased a rolex at an estate sale and know nothing about it other than some research I did online. Can you please help me identify it and any other info you might have on it? I'm not looking to sell it but would also be curious what you think it would be worth.... hopefully more than I paid for it! Thanks for any help you can provide.
The little research I did said look at the model near the 12 o'clock position and it says Brevet. The serial number near the 6 o'clock position is five digit 80XXX. According to internet search it says it was manufactured in either 1939 or 1954. It also says Datejust on the dial so was confused if that's the model or Brevet is the model. |

Thunderbird Turn-O-Graph? Does the gold bezel rotate?
The model number should be on the side of the case between the lug points at 12 O'Clock. You'll have to remove the bracelet to see it. It looks like it might be a Ref. 1625. "Brevet" just means Patent.

I believe 1625 is correct. Thought the gold bezel came with TT bracelet, but I may be wrong. Nice looking watch. Congrats!

Mid-50's Datejust Turn-O-Graph, as was mentioned, along with how to verify this in case the bezel was replaced some time along the line. .
The model number may also be stamped inside the case-back. The Datejust was introduced in late 1945, so it couldn't be any earlier than that.

It’s so hard to find nicer watches at estate sales. They often get snatched up before we can get to them. Congrats on an amazing find!

There is a lot of distortion in the photo, but the dial appears to be repainted IMO. I just mention this because the OP asked about value.

Looks like a 6309. Agree that the dial looks redone, which is not a surprise. Those original dials often discolored badly. Still cool, though. Love that splash of red. I assume the band was replaced too. I believe it would have had a two-tone bracelet originally, like this one below.

If it was repainted then whoever did it did a near perfect job. The printing font is spot on. It may just be a jewel of a dial that was hidden in a drawer for years and years.
Very little corrosion on the hour markers and hands makes me lean towards a really nice original dial.

Either way, not a bad estate sale pick-up, depending what the OP paid. |

It's a beautiful watch, I'd certainly buy it if the price was right BUT I agree with swish77 that this is likely a re-painted dial. MY reason for saying so is that some of the minute markers protrude inside the track of the outside edge of the indices, unlike the original dial with which we are making comparison. It's an imaginary line (circle) formed by the outer edge of the gold markers, and minute marks shouldn't extend inside that circle.

I wish I could upload a higher quality photo but it wouldn't allow me. It would show the clarity better and show that it appears original and not repainted.

Hopefully you will get a Rolex Service Center answer after you send it in. Afraid a few things don’t make sense - but the RSC will let you know.

I hope you all aren't saying it's repainted because of swish77 post. Hd posted a picture of something that wasn't mine. If anyone wants to message me directly, I'd be happy to send a higher quality photo. I appreciate all the feedback and I know what I have now. Thank you estate sale.... you all would be surprised on what I paid for it

Can you post some more photos of your watch, showing more detail and close-ups of the dial? |

That’s different. He was essentially bragging about paying very little to an uninformed widow. This is a sure way to raise the hackles of anyone with scruples. (If I’m remembering the same thread.) |

Aw, c’mon you guys!! Lay off with the “what if” comments! Now you’re turning it into a controversy and he’ll never tell us. Weren’t you curious, for cryin’ out loud? I, for one, wasn’t about to judge him for getting a good deal. I just wanted to share the fun, at least vicariously!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This thread has prompted me to go looking for a Ref. 116264 on the secondary market as my next Rolex purchase.
