Should I service my sub?
I have a submariner with a 2000 production date. I purchased it preowned in 2005 and supposedly it was serviced by the Rolex dealer when purchased.
Lately I have noticed the power reserve is down to between 12 and 24 hours. My local Rolex certified watchmaker Recommended a complete service with new mainspring for $700 as well as a Rolex required crown replacement and stem with gold parts for $200. I have the watch back and I hesitated. If I don’t wear it for a day I manually wind it. Questions- Should I do the service now or wait? Is the price reasonable and customary? Are there any other questions I should be asking? The other information that may be helpful is that this is a watch I very much want to keep. Thanks. |

You’ve had it for 16 years. It’s time for a service. $700 is the going rate for a full service.

Rolex Service
In every 10 years It is recommended to service your Rolex approximately every 10 years depending on the model and real-life usage.

The quotes you got are reasonable. If it hasn't been serviced in 16 years it could do with a proper movement cleaning and lubrication. Continue using it might result in additional service costs down the line.

I service my vintage Tudor Submariner every few years to keep it "tuned up."

The suggestions made as to spring, crown/reseals and such, including the costs, sound perfectly reasonable. This is an average service at a typical cost.
Your 20 year old watch is due for this service, so make certain it gets it to last many more decades without leaking water, etc. Springs are normally replaced as a matter of service anyhoo. Yours is obviously due.

That’s very reasonable. I just took my 20-year-old Yachtmaster in to an RSC (last serviced 2014) and I’ll be paying about $900.

You are not sure if the watch was serviced when you bought it in 2005, so at least 16 years without. With 900 $ this results in 5 $ per month, very little for a hobby. |

definitely service
you can always to go a local watchmaker certified by Rolex and get it serviced there for $400. you won't have to deal with Rolex. Rolex will probably make you polish the watch as well

I'm in West Palm. Do you recommend one in this area? I checked with Mayors a few years back and they said they just sent them to a Rolex Serv. Ctr. and add their fees.
