Incoming Goal Piece

The Yachtmaster in rose gold on OysterFlex was the watch that sparked my interest in fine timepieces several years ago. When I finally tried it on I thought it was stunning, but just a touch too simple looking for what I consider an expensive watch.

Fast forward a couple years and I see the OysterFlex Daytona. I set my goal to be in the position to buy one of those and got back to my daily efforts. A year or so later it was time to procure one.

I went to a couple local grey dealers and tried on as many variations as I could. I originally thought I was sure I’d want Rose Gold because that’s what the YM was. But after trying it on I realized I have rose gold skin, and the watch just didn’t pop on me. Then I tried on yellow gold, and that was that.

Now to decide on the face. Go with the sporty face of black on yellow sub dials? Or what I think is a more elegant face of champagne? Perhaps white, to pay homage to the watches given to the drivers at the 24 hours of Daytona?

I didn’t get to see them all in person, but I did get to see the champagne face with black subs at my AD, and that was that. Deposit paid in February of 2020.

I’ve never waited for something for over 3 months in my life, let alone a year. Patience, is not a virtue I hold. But I remained patient. What was originally supposed to be a couple months, dragged on and on. All through COVID, through fears of it being discontinued, through fears of the AD going out of business, etc.

As luck would have it, I’m off the grid overlanding this past weekend and I get a bunch of texts after being “dark” when I briefly popped into cell range. One of them is from my AD. She’s sent a pic, and a few panicky texts asking if I’m not still interested since I haven’t replied in my usual expedient manner.

I don’t usually like to communicate while overlanding off the grid, but I didn’t want to lose this watch. I popped out the trusty sat phone, and shot her a message that of course I still wanted it and that I’d be around Monday to collect it. Probably the first time she’s had that happen.

I picked it up later the day I arrived home after washing the dust and sweat of a weekend in the desert away. I love the watch, it’s going to be a quick favorite. It fits my 7.5” wrist much better than my TT Daytona. I’ll have to either sell that or resize it for my wife.

Some things are worth waiting for. And some goals are meant to be.

You did right! This reference is absolutely worth the wait! The champagne dial is getting a lot of attention and rightfully so.

I’m after the RG Daytona OF w/ rosé dial next! Just patiently waiting for the GlideLock to be introduced.

Haha thanks. Didn’t dawn on me others here might share interests in that. Wore my JC all weekend and got it cleaned by the AD when collecting my new piece.

The eagle eyed will see me wearing it while winching out a buddy.

I think you made an excellent choice.

Well, in fairness, all the iterations you were considering are excellent, so you were in a win-win situation.
