Yacht Master blue or rhodium dial?
I know I’m the only one that can make this decision but I am torn so reaching out for some advice.
I’m going to buy a Yacht master 116622 on Monday but really can’t decide which to go for. 2014 blue dial or for £850 more a 2017 rhodium dial, both mint condition with box and papers. I’ve owned the blue dial in the past and do like it but found the blue to be darker than it shows in all the pics I’ve seen, kind of fancy trying the rhodium dial but maybe it also won’t look as good as it does in the pics. Any opinions most welcome please? |

Hello. I currently own the YM40 with the blue dial, but also owned the rhodium last year. Both are beautiful references however I prefer the blue for two reasons. First, the blue in sunlight is stunning. Second, I found the minimal color contrast between the hands and the rhodium dial made it difficult to tell the time in dim lighting conditions. But, again, both are terrific specimens. Cheers to you in Kent! Back in the 1990s, I used to go there a few times a year to meet a business partner. Used to stay at the Forte Crest hotel with the pointed roof (probably not a Forte Crest anymore....)

I have the blue and love it, never seen rhodium in the flesh to compare how it wears. Enjoy whichever one you choose

I bought the Rhodium in December. My SA had both for me to choose. I tend to be a Blue dial guy and I do own a Bluesy, but as soon as I saw the Rhodium I knew it was for me. I would take either, so it is personal choice...good luck!

Blue has more character and looks more dynamic, which makes for a more unique piece. All personal opinion, of course.

I would go for the Rhodium for three reasons: It is 3 years "newer;" the blue, which looks almost black in all but bright light, seems to wear a touch smaller as a result; and I like the blue accents vs. the red. As another poster mentioned, the Rhodium can be a little tougher to read in dimmer lighting, but I think overall the whole Rhodium package looks better.

Tough one. I'd probably go with Rhodium. Depends on how you want to wear it.
Rhodium is more balanced in its native state on the bracelet. It blends more with the theme of the platinum bezel and looks "in place" with the bracelet, in my opinion. As such, it's not as "loud" as the blue dial. The blue dial is also stunning, the red seconds-hand pops quite a bit. If you desire more color, then this is the better option. I also think the blue dial would look better on a strap, for example if you decide on an after-market leather or rubber strap. |

I went Rhodium and couldn’t be happier. It’s a dazzler of a piece and the color combo is very unique for Rolex.

Rhodium, hands down.
Was offered a blue and turned it down. The rhodium just hits different. |

Rhodium seems the obvious choice here, I mean, you already flipped the blue once already.

If I didn't already have the blue datejust I probably would have wanted the blue (AKA Captain America), however I got the rhodium and it looks awesome!

Both are great watches, and it is really personal preference.
I have a blue dial and love the variation of colors in different lighting conditions, particularly in bright sunlight. |

I went Rhodium. Find I can use it for both a little dressier look, and works well for casual as well. Blue is definitely a more casual look. Both are beautiful though.

As problems go...that’s a nice one to have, lucky you! I love the rhodium with blue accents. That would be my choice but only just. Have fun!

Between the two, I prefer the slate dial. The only blue dial I love is the one in the Bluesy. My favourite YM remains the platinum dial.

I like the rhodium, but the blue is better long term. Great look and contrast.

I think the rhodium dial looks great, and can vary from a dark grey that is almost black to sliver, or a sunburst mix of the two, depending on the light. It's a bit less flashy than the blue, imo.
