authenticating a Rolex in Vancouver BC

Hi everyone, I am new here and is in the process of purchasing my first rolex. I want to know if anyone has any recommendations for a well trusted place to authenticate a Submariner i am about to purchase? I am based in Vancouver BC!

Any help and suggestion would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!!

Bring it to an Authorized Dealer. They can confirm. Some charge a fee to do so.

Thank you! I don't have the watch yet, the seller is asking where I want the watch to be authenticated at and he will meet me there. I am also new to Vancouver so don't really know a good place to go.

I figured if he is the one offering to authenticate the watch at a place I suggests, it should be legit?

I did my research and it seems like the ADs in Vancouver don't authenticate because they don't want to take on the risks. Also it seems like a lot of them don't know much about the watch

See The German Watchmaker in Gastown. Norbert knows his stuff and has worked on my DJ and Tudor Sub and has many clients.

Thank you so much! The seller actually suggested Otto, have you heard of them? Are they trust worthy?

I have..and they are. They're in the Fairmont Hotel. Larger operation, higher 'overhead' - A family operation.

Good reviews on both.

Probably so..
I vaguely remember stopping by Otto's once a long time ago, for something related, but they couldn't help me then...
There are good reviews for both operations.

Nice looking sub...to give us an idea of what it is. But not a great shot to give better feedback.

Ya, I know.. Wish i have better options to show. I did some research and it seems like Otto is very well respected so i will have him sort everything out for me. The fact the seller was the one that suggested having it authenticated either by Otto or any maker I suggest leads me to believe he isn't trying to rip me off.

Does anybody know where he can take it for checking the serial number to know it wasn’t stolen? Not looking to freak OP out, but one important factor.

ohh, The seller did tell me he is willing to share with me the serial number so i can check with any registry if I want. Not sure if that is what you meant. As you can tell I am new to this..

I wouldn’t trust an AD to know the ins and outs of a well-faked piece. Heard too many stories of ADs that didn’t know what they were doing. Buy the seller as they say.

Otto is would be a good place to check. That or the German Watchmaker. Both are typically the recommended places in Vancouver.

I think the days are over where AD's confirm the authenticity of a piece.

With today's franken's and super fakes, it would require a proper watchmaker to take the entire piece apart. Even then there could most likely be parts they couldn't tell if fake or real, it would have to go to a RSC and I don't think they do that anymore.

Always buy the seller and if you feel the need to have the watch authenticated before sale its a sign you do not trust seller so walk away.

100%, just that I've never purchased one before and I will probably not trust anyone besides going to an AD. Knowing how impossible it is to get a Sub through an AD without bundling, I can only go this route...
