Former AD Morré Lyons Jewelers - Rolex Pulls Line After 50 Years - They were THE BEST

Hello Everyone,

Recently found out that Morré Lyons Jewelers just lost their AD status after carrying the line for 50 plus years. I am devastated for Linda and Amy who have been running the store since their father's passing in 2004. I was lucky enough to purchase my Rolex Submariner from them and they were always kind to me and my family. The customer service was extraordinary and they had a wonderful small town/mom and pop feel that Rolex is moving away from.

My father used to deal with Ron many years ago but he has since retired. He was able to procure a few watches over the years which we hold so dear. My family has been going there for jewelry needs and I even got my engagement ring at the store. So sad to hear about this!

I heard that Rolex told them last year that they were terminating their contract and never gave them an opportunity to invest in a boutique store or have any options in the matter. Just got cut.

They always treated us beautifully so wanted to post about them. Seems like Rolex is continuing to close more stores with each passing year. Wishing them all the best.

Oh really, I had been in Contact with Jason regarding a watch - I guess that's not happening. I wonder why they got pulled? Were they selling out the back?

I've purchased several watches from them .

Def a mom.and.pop store, although I would get annoyed when they would charge 3% for cc fees.

Really? Visa, MC, or Amex?

Not on Amex, however, a 6.25% on sales tax.

No one is allowed to charge for the CC Fee. They didn't charge me CC fee when I purchased.

In the U.S. at least, the rules changed in 2013 as a result of a a legal settlement to resolve claims brought by a group of U.S. merchants, merchants in the U.S. and U.S. territories may add a surcharge to certain credit card transactions, starting January 27, 2013. Merchants who choose to surcharge must follow consumer disclosure and other requirements agreed to as part of the settlement. U.S. merchants must first notify Visa and their acquirer of their intent to surcharge at least 30 days prior to implementing surcharging. Merchants can submit a notification form to Visa at www.visa.com/merchantsurcharging. Merchants may not begin surcharging until January 27, 2013.

This is why I fired my Ford dealership. They started passing along the fee on all service billing. I now get my truck serviced at a great local shop and won't do business with my Ford dealer again. They were already annoying with their list of add-ons to new vehicle purchases so it wasn't hard to say goodbye, the credit card fees were just the last straw.

I’ve been visiting them regularly and got on the list over the last six months. This stinks, they really are an incredibly nice group of people. I’m so bummed to hear this, I was really hoping to buy a piece from them. This is the second AD in the last month I was on the list with to have their license pulled. Sidney Thomas at Short Hills also lost theirs, but I didn’t think Morre Lyons would given how long they’d been a retailer. Man this sucks, I feel terrible for them.

I feel your pain. My AD, King Jewelry in Alexandria, Va, lost their status. A lovely mom & pop shop, that had been an AD for 50+ years. Sad.

Rolex is betting that the power of their brand and products will outweigh your fond feelings for this AD — and you’ll seek Rolex out from another dealer. It’s a pretty safe bet.

One of the best ADs I’ve encountered.

I am extremely disappointed at this decision.

I bought my very first Rolex from them. A fellow Forum member was nice enough to refer me to them, and when I arrived I said, “[guy’s name] sent me.” I got a very nice deal on an Explorer that day, and I’ve thought fondly of Morre-Lyons on many occasions since. They were friendly and, I felt, generous, and if I still lived near them, I would have tried to buy more watches from them.

This reasoning has always made the most sense to me, China, and probably a few other countries.

This has been happening the last few years. The move away from smaller markets and Mom and Pop jewelry stores. They have closed a bunch here recently. It seems to be speeding up. Rolex clearly wants to get a stronger grip on its distribution channels and move upmarket.

Sad for me. I'm with a small town Mom and Pop that have carried Rolex since the 1940's. I hope I'm wrong but my guess is their days are numbered.

Maybe. But consider this, all gray market watches come from the AD. Looking at the current state of things, there is an awful lot of gray dealers with a never ending supply of the most desirable SS models.

That's so sad to hear. I actually bought my black dial Daytona from them almost 7 years ago. My brother purchased his blue dial datejust from them 2 years ago. They are a very friendly family owned store. I also got my engagement ring and wedding bands from them. Now the question is where locally to try and buy a Rolex from?

Yep that's the location! Nice people at Lee Perla too. Not sure how easy it will be to obtain any of the popular steel models as a new customer though.
