Icon20 2021 Rolex Explorer SS 36mm Gloss Black Dial????

This watch is perfect. I'll be upgrading my 114270 100%. But does the new SS model have a gloss black dial??? Fingers crossed, I'm not a massive fan of matte black dials.

As I read it, it said "lacquered". Not sure if it applies to the SS. I think the matte black would still look better for this watch, if it's the case

Just like the Explorer II black. Matte dials are gone from the Explorer line.

Really? Gloss dials on the Explorer lineup across the board?
IMO, the matte dial really suits that character of the Explorer line much better.
Jeez

Does anybody know if the 36mm explorer case is any different to the 36mm OP case?

A switch to lacquer dials on the Exp line would be disappointing. That's one of my favorite things about my 214270. Helps make it unique and set it apart in the Rolex catalogue. I've always liked the matte black dial of the 216570 as well.

The bezel is different. Flat on the Exp and domed on the OP.

Looks like gloss in this image on their website. Notice the reflection of the seconds hand.

Wei Koh confirmed, lacquer gloss dial on both 36mm, on the contrary of the matte dial on 39mm

Gloss dials is the reason I switched from the submariner to the explorer line. Oh well, guess I won’t be getting a 36mm. Not that big of a deal, I have a 39mm but would have traded to get a 36 if it was matte.

Welp, any doubt in my mind about whether to stick with my 39 is now gone.

Matte on 39mm is great and gives a character to the watch, but on 36mm lacquer may look better, hard to tell before seeing in flesh

Case and profile look like the 114270 to me from the pics so far. The hands look like 5 digit reference hands too (not fattened like the 39mm and subs etc)
The movement, bracelet, and luminous numbers (and lume color in the dark) are obviously an upgrade and different.

I wonder how different it will look in real life vs the 114270 and if it will be worth an upgrade, and I wonder if we will continue to see 8k/9k 114270 complete sets with gray dealers.
Btw - I think both new explorers look awesome in the pics I have seen so far.

Another reason why I'm so glad I have the 39mm version. Matte dial, larger and easier to read. Nicely proportioned. I have a vintage 36mm Datejust, a nice watch, but I've become used to the slightly larger cases now.

Kind of the final nail in the 36mm coffin as far as my interest is concerned. With any Rolex, I try to steer clear of the gloss dials if at all possible. That is why I have DSSD, Hulk, and Explorer.

My issue with them? The way they are manufactured creates a dimple in the center of the dial where the hands come through the dial, which drives me nuts. I am not sure why Rolex cannot create a high-gloss dial without this effect. It doesn't happen on sunburst or matte dials.

Even my gloss blue Smurf dial had the dreaded dimple...

I hope the new 36 has the heft and width of the newer 36mm cases vs the older 36mm cases of the 1980 and 90's. With the new style solid bracelet the 36 should wear larger than the previous 36mm Exp 1.

No, that's the point to make it in 36mm now. Next year, it'll be 41mm Explorer. Easier to re-use cases from OP.

How long can we expect until ADs have them? Not that I can get it from them anyway. Lol
