Opinion needed YM or Sub

Happy Friday! Need an opinion looking to trade in late 90’s Rolex date for either a YM blue dial 116622, new sub 126610LN, or bluesy sub 116613. Currently have a batgirl and PAM 312 in rotation.

Tia.

Get the new 12xxxx YM. Updated case, new movement, flatter caseback for comfort. Color dial options. Not the headache a Sub will give acquiring right now.

Thanks! I’ll check it out but leaning towards a blue dial hence the bluesy or the YM blue dial.

Batgirl is fairly subdued... And a sub is a lot like it. YM would be something different. I have a sub but still think about a YM someday. But for daily wear a sub is hard to beat. Not sure if the flashiness of the YM would wear on me over time.

Thanks for nudging me in the YM direction! Similar thought on the batgirl and sub. Love the contrast on the blue dial and red hand of the YM but have always thought about the two tone bluesy.

Go for the YM with the tried and true movement as the new “32 series” movement has a lot of reported issues with it. There is number of threads on the 32 series movement.

Welcome! IMHO the blue dial YM is one of the best looking watches Rolex makes.

I have the YM in blue and it is a gorgeous piece. It is the one watch that I see people staring at or doing the double take. It is sporty but can be dressy up too. It is unique from the sub and has the platinum bezel.

I like the YM but the bezel puts me off. The bezel width, the raised indices and the sand blasted finish aren't for me. I recommend you get the Sub date and walk away from watches forever because you truly would have all the watch you'll ever need.

YM gets my vote for dial color diversity. I'm not a TT fan and not a fan of the bluesy. The Sub is the predictable, dare I say boring, choice (but a great watch). You have a black dial in the GMT, I don't know PAM's well enough but if it's any color but blue then adding a blue dial to the mix will be great.

There is a thread in here somewhere about the long term durability of the YM, does it get scratched to death as a daily, etc. I haven't seen it in a long time but I remember the overwhelming feedback from people who actually have and wear the watch is this is not an issue.

I've always loved the Yachtmaster. My first Rolex was a Yachtmaster 16622. I sold it for some home repairs and always regretted it. Just yesterday, I was able to reunite with this piece - except this time its a 126622 with the Rhodium Dial. I'm not huge on blue dials personally -- they are fun, but the rhodium is pure class. However, I totally endorse the Yachtmaster over the sub. It is my favorite Rolex in the line-up. Below is a great video on the piece (rhodium) but you'll get the drift even if considering blue.

Does the YM have a trip lock crown?

Another vote for the YM. I have a sparkly 16622 and look to get a blue 116622, which i also think is gorgeous.

Take the blue pill, buy the utilitarian black Sub and sleep with the peace of mind you have what everybody else wants. If all aspire to owning one, it must be good, right? Stay in the numbing and reassuring beaten path.

Take the red pill, buy the Yacht-Master and step into another dimension, a world of fine connoisseurs who can appreciate the countless subtleties and elegant sophistication of such an exquisite, discreet and elegant timepiece. No one will understand it but you don't follow the herd. Instead, you go your own way, free from those dictating what you should be doing, how you should be thinking. You are your own boss and need nobody's validation and pat on the shoulder. You are now at the turning point separating men from boys.

I own a YM and a Bluesy. I skipped the black Sub.

The YM I mentioned is offered in a blue sunburst dial. The dial you mentioned.

Exactly, I’d avoid the newer 32 series movement having experienced the low amplitude issue first hand and even after going back to Rolex the problem came back 3 months later.
I was torn between the blue and rhodium dial 116622 yacht masters recently, went blue in the end as the rhodium is a little boring in my opinion while the blue is darker than most pics show so didn’t find it that flashy at all

Great analogy! Thanks all for your input! Pulled the trigger on the YM.

What strap is that? I also have a Panerai and have an addition to straps :).

How did you get the red date on there?

Sir, you must be a poet. Hats off at your eloquence!

To the OP: I had the same decision some months ago. Went with the YM Blue dial... best decision ever!

Congratulations! I own all three that you mentioned: a 5 digit Bluesy, an 11 series SubC and a Rhodium YM...I have only owned the YM since December but I liked it so much I just picked up the Everose on Oysterflex!
They all have their place, but I’m wearing the YMs much more-we will see if it’s just a honeymoon phase??

Depends of what you like. Sub is sharp with flat edges, YM has curves everywhere and larger indices.

I would select submariner only because of the clasp to be honest. The oysterflex yacht master also offers glide lock, which is a godsend to me.

Red date wheel is from a 116264 turnograph, which shares the same movement. The leather band is from Everest Bands and comes with the integrated ss endlinks:
