SkyD and DaytonaC owners
Ok TRF I would love to hear some opinions different then my lovely wife’s
So first and foremost the SkyD is number 1 on my list of all my owned watches and definitely most worn. I just love it. The size, look, and omg the accuracy is unreal. Set it on April 6 and just checked it, using the same app I set it with and it’s gained 1 second in 12 days. One. Now on to the 500LN. Also love it but much smaller on the wrist, no date, and probably the least accurate out of my entire collection. See sig line. But yet I do love it just not like my SkyD. So enough rambling and on to the question. To all who own both or even those who don’t would you trade your 500LN for a Blue Dial BNIB? My wife says I’m giving up a totally different watch for the same watch and only getting a blue dial so why would you do it? She’s into LV and has quite a collection so she can relate to a lot of my watch questions and acquisitions. I am always the one who says keep and just add but I’ll never ever ever get one via an A D so I’d have to go Grey on a Blue SkyD and that’s a good bit of coin. From a MSRP stand point one is 13,150 selling for crazy money and the other is 14,800 selling for not as crazy money. But still crazy. Which I guess is why my used 500LN gets me a new 326934. So there’s that. I mean most say the Blue SkyD is more of a unicorn then a DaytonaC. Help a vet TRF.

I have to agree with your wife.
Maybe do the opposite, swap the black SKd for the blue dial, maybe add some $ if you have to. Both unique watches, but I am biased towards the Daytona as a small wristed fellow. |

Lets see..the Daytona, steel black dial is selling for $20,000.00 over msrp on the GM...a very good reason to keep it I would say. You will want it back one day, am I right? I just talked to a GM person who thinks the Daytona steel is awesome hard to get from an AD. Not sure of the Blue dial SD but you already have a black dial, I talked to a AD about the blue dial SD and they have never seen one in their store. If possible, I would suggest keeping everything and adding the Blue dial SD when the funds are there. On another note, I really like the White dial SD but it doesn't seem to get much love from others. That won't stop me from getting what I like to see on my wrist, someday. Even the Daytona white dial steel and yellow gold looks awesome to me....the only problem is funding everything I like. oh I have dedicated the bulk of my disposable income to my "Rolex collection", meaning if I buy one I keep it. And disposable income has many definitions. One of which is not debt. I am confident from what you say you feel the same. As for me and me alone, I feel the best value for my money is to keep what I buy, don't sell, because first of all I bought what I liked and I like what I bought, secondly taking a loss by selling is just that, taking a loss. The only other thing I have done is sent a watch back because it wasn't the one I thought I was buying. I did that within the hour of receiving it. Full refund. No loss. Then I carefully identified the one I wanted in the first place and bought it. Still have it, years later. Building my collection. We each do what we want. And hopefully are well satisfied because of it.

Thank you for the idea but Black is my favorite dial choice. As you can see I have quite a few black dials. Maybe too many. So the black dial SkyD would never leave. But I’m suddenly smitten with Blue dial images. This is more about swapping a hard to get for a different hard to get and one that I would get more enjoyment out of. Or at least I think I would. Then again thinking about this is

I have black and white daytona and wouldn't' trade either one for blue SkyD. I don't care if blue SkyD is a unicorn. I do not like the look of the SkyD at all or the dinner plate size of the SkyD (but that's just me. everyone has their own tastes and preferences)

Straight up trade would be silly. If you want to sacrifice the Daytona for a blue SD, I’d call up one of the grays and they will give you a blue SD (likely unworn) plus cash for your Daytona. You are leaving thousands on the table for a straight swap.

I like the SkyD in gold, in stainless not quite as much. With that said, Daytona’s are the second most hyped stainless watch in production, Nautilus being the first. I would say keep the Daytona because it’s a better watch in my opinion. If you don’t agree with that, keep it because it’s appreciating at a faster rate than the SkyD.

Check if an RSC center would swap your black dial for the blue dial; if so cheaper and problem solve !

Rationale behind ownership will vary for each individual.
The way I read your post is that the Daytona (albeit wonderful) may not be the one for you. You obviously value functionality, size, precision, and aesthetic. The Daytona may hit a few of those marks, but by the way you describe it, doesn't hit all. I'd recommend taking a step back to understand why you love the Daytona. Is any bit of it due to hype? If so, I'd ride that hype train for a cool $20k net profit and swap it for a BNIB Blue Sky. On a personal note, my thing is the GMT function. While my GMT collection is infinitesimal now, I'd buy 2-3 GMTs instead of the current market value of say a 116500. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate the heck out of the Daytona, however. Just not exactly what I'm looking for... |

I would not own two SS SkyDs. I do own the blue SkyD and do like it more than the black Daytona though. Personally I’d trade the black Sky for the blue (and cash of course) and you’d have a serious pair with the blackTona and blue Sky. You’re welcome......

I’ve got the same pair - black dials on stainless steel Sky-Dweller and Daytona C - both fantastic watches in their own right. I would not do that trade.

I am personally not interested in Sky Dweller, but that aside I still would not do the trade. I agree with your wife, the black and blue dial are just too similar. As others have mentioned, trading the black Sky Dweller for the blue dial one is what I also recommend, good luck!

It sounds like you really love the SkyD model.
So you will really enjoy having both the blue and black dials alot. So do the trade you want, but only if your wife promises not to give you hell (because that is a whole other story!)> |

I had obtained all 3 watches in questions from the same AD. The Blue SkyD had the longest wait time. all 3 are special in their own rights. The blue SkyD dial is magnificent in person.

I would not. I do like the blue skyD a lot but they'd have to add $6-7K to get my white Daytona in that deal.

Don’t keep the watch just because it’s appreciating in value. Keep the watch you want to appreciate.
If you wear the heck out of the SkyD then perhaps if you got another SkyD you’d wear your old one less. I think a diverse collection is more exciting. I too nearly pulled the trigger on a second DJII but in TT (pre owned) purely because I love the style. But having two the same stops me from appreciating and wearing another style. |

I have a DaytonaC black. I wouldn't do a straight trade for the Blue SkyD. And note, I love blue dials. And I like the complications of the SkyD.
I agree with the others above to maybe sell the SkyD black and add to get the blue SkyD. Then you will have two amazing watches...which both happen to be very hard to get at MSRP or massive premium at grey. If you decide later on that you want to get the black SkyD again....while hard....it seems a bit more doable than getting another Daytona. Either way, you have great watches. Let us know what you decide. All the best. |

I would trade for the skyd, to me the Daytona can’t hold a candle to the skyd.
It just wears to small for me and is super over hyped. With that said you already have a skyd and I wouldn’t get rid of the Daytona to get another one with just a different dial. As the Daytona is a solid investment and something different in your collection so you can alternate. Now if you can trade that Daytona for a gold skyd that would be something to seriously consider. |

I like to have a varied collection and like you have black SkyD and Daytona. Some people collect the Daytona range, some collect the GMT range, so why not collect the SkyD range?
Just go with what you want, it's your taste and your collection. However, for me I prefer variety and would keep the SkyD and Daytona. Maybe changing the SkyD to blue and keep the black Daytona is the solution. However, you will need to spend some $$$ to do it.

I personally would not trade the Daytona C. I think you will regret trading it. Keep the Daytona C and just add the blue dial Skydweller when you can. I have both the white dial Daytona C and blue dial Skydweller and both are completely different watches and add variety to any collection.

I find the SkyD a much more interesting and appealing watch than the Daytona and would do this trade.
Different dial color does make it enough of a different watch

Maybe have the blue be on the new jubilee option? That would maybe create enough “difference”?
