Does a PM Rolex move you up the AD priority list?
I'm just curious on what people think in regards to getting a precious metal Rolex from an AD, and if it actually moves you up in their priority list. Something like a Submariner, Yachtmaster 40, or Daytona on Oysterflex for example.
Back a few years ago, I feel like getting a PM watch from an AD would help merit status as more of a VIP and even a possible discount. Now that things are so hot do you even think it really makes much of an impression? |

It will definitely help since it's more money for the AD, simple as that. The question is are these also easier to get than a SS ones, considering everyone is stuffed with money.

Buying a PM watch definitely bumps you up from a dollars spent perspective because they know you have money to spend. Over the past few months however, PM watches are becoming more an more desirable. In short, you’re looking for an SS sub, buying a PM watch will probably get you one by the end of the year

Today PM are also hard to get, normally if you have a good relationship with your AD you can have it average 4-9 months.
I’m not sure if today you will get too much merit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

it can't hurt, but the stakes are so much higher.
I've purchased 6-7 watches from one AD in the past year or so. One being a TT and another being a PM. 2-3 years ago, that'd be enough to at least group me with the VIPs. Today I need to be grateful for those opportunities haha. That said, it's all relative. I don't think I'm getting a call for a SS Daytona or Pepsi anytime soon, but there's a chance I might get the new OP41 or maybe even an LN Sub. It's not what it's used to be, but I'm still further ahead than the person who bought 1 SS Datejust in the past 3 years. |

Diamond are the new PM.
People moved to PM, and now to get ahead in spending you must pay the premium of shiny compressed carbon cubes. |

The AD if they are any good should look after all their customers
They reward loyalty of course, so it will help. But 1pm piece probably won’t do much. Good ADs won’t allow 1 person to hoover up all the popular pieces. Otherwise they alienate genuine customers. A good AD will deliver a popular piece but use it to buy time to deliver other models to other customers before you get yours without making you wait too much to reward your loyalty |

Does a PM Rolex move you up the AD priority list?
ADs that practice that type of business typically have whales that they cater to who buy more than just 1 PM reference.
Sounds like you would just be elevating yourself in the sucker list. I personally would do extra leg work and look for another AD as I can’t afford the route you’re considering |

Everything you spend helps and will move you up, but not all spends are equal.
The calculus involves how much you spend and what you spend it on. The more purchases you make of less desirable pieces, the more you move up. It's all calculus. |

Given their limited allocation of PM within particular references anymore based on my view it’s not helping at all. As mentioned above my spending relative to other items including jewelry for my wife definitely helps

I think a few years ago, absolutely. If you bought a PM Daytona, it wouldn’t be too difficult to get a hotter SS piece. It seems that PMs are just as coveted as SS lately. I don’t know that buying a PM piece does much to move the needle outside of increasing spend.

It would almost certainly depend entirely on what watch you want priority to buy after the PM Rolex and if there are others willing to pay the AD more than you are for that desirable piece. Further, if the PM piece is one that they have 10 other customers trying to get, they may even reserve that for the customer willing to pay more?

Would buying a TT, say a Root Beer, move you up in a similar way?

Only if it’s a non popular PM piece.

Might make a tiny difference whether you're buying from a big city AD, or a smaller Mom n Pop ( if there are any of those left ). Basically, what's the size and pocket depth of your competition for any given watch and how many of that watch is your AD going to receive?
Honestly, I think the AD will take your money with a smile in return for a complete lack of any firm commitment to provide you with squat, within any reasonable timeframe. But at least you'll have a PM watch that you really love. Right ?

Don't buy PM just to get a bump on the list for SS.
I would buy PM to wear it just like how all watches should be. |

Just walk in with a briefcase of cash, open it, and stare at them until they say something.

Simple answer - buying a precious metal watch moves you up the list, but not as far up the list as buying two precious metal watches.

I cannot even get on a wait list for that one, so I don’t think so.

I think buying a precious metal watch may well help you get a stainless steel sports model. However, there is no guarantee with any of these things.
Another consideration is the money you may save in not buying a precious metal watch could go towards buying a grey market stainless steel model you desire.

I’m sure it helps but doesn’t automatically qualify you. I’ve bought two PM models in the last 18 months. No offer of a SS model yet, not that I really care because I love the PM models but I do want a SS GMT to close my collection. With the pandemic I’m sure it’s slowed things down somewhat. I’ll still pop in and say hello every few months, and my AD did assure me I’ll have one in the next 6 months but not counting on it!

Building a relationship with an AD and having an extensive purchase history is the best way I’ve found to get access to the hotter pieces. It usually works well as long as you’re not flipping watches. They catch you flipping, they can cut you off from future purchases.

Also, FWIW, the PM Daytona's on oyster flex are really hot right now, so getting one is an allocation at most ADs.

The AD that I normally buys from bundles the hard to get SS sports watches with the PM watches. Or you have to buy a bunch of jewelleries. They say we are on a list but its all fake.....it's whoever is willing to splash some cash on the PM watches
