Deep Sea Dilemma..?

Recently picked up a 126660 D-Blue... I also own an original 116660 too.. thinking about going for a black dial 126660... but its hard to off load the "original" Deep Sea even tho the bracelet feels much better on the 126660 series... The 116660 is just part of the Sea Dweller story so its a hard one to offload... ????

The first gen wore substantially larger on the wrist than the new version

I could never get past the end link design of the original. The bracelet never bothered me though.

If I were in your shoes, and thinking about any unloading it would be for a lighter and more versatile watch. Also, adding versatility in terms of style to your collection would be a consideration-but perhaps you already have a few other pieces. The deep sea/SD/sub family all have the same basic look. Nothing wrong with that but not much diversity.

No sense in my mind keeping the old version if you purchased the new one and like it more in terms on fitment

Splitting hairs. I own the 12 series DSSD JC and it does wear nice BUT I kinda feel that if I owned the Gen 1, I might want to keep it to complete the series. This all depends if you want to have that much money tied up in almost identical watches.

Have the original 116660 Black and a 126660 D-Blue .

The original DSSD is the most worn watch in my whole collection .Been everywhere with me .Will never sell it .
116610LN also gets lots of wrists time .

Keep it if it makes sense for you.
I sold my original 116660 once the 126660 was released and never looked back.

Interesting thread. I have the original JC and have wondered if the fitment was different. I like the wider bracelet. Do you have a pic of what each fits like on your wrist?

I've never had an early version so I can't compare. With that being said, I looked at both the cameron & the black 126660. The blue just didn't "do it" for me so I bought the black version. It has become my daily, everything else stays in the safe now.

My experience as well. I find that the 126660 wears much better as a result of the redesigned case and bracelet.

+1, felt the 126660 sits/wears better for me.

There's no answer here except the ones you have to figure out in your head. What's making you desire the 12 series? Do you like the changes to the bracelet and end links? Do you care about the originality of the 116660 over the 12? Do you prefer one over another aesthetically?

Personally, I strongly prefer the aesthetics of the end links, thinner bracelet, and font on the 116660 over the 126660.
It fits so well and I wear it so often I could care less about trying for a different fit. If i were to add a black deepsea it would be the 116660.

But there's just as many reasons you might want the 126660.

Did it really what are the reasons for it wearing larger on the wrist? I’ve only tried one on once not if it was the old or new model but I thought it was a huge - and I wear an sd43 almost every day. Been considering re visiting it.

Thanks for all your comments guys… I’m going to give it a while before I decide what to do. Having a final series 16600 and 116600 the 116660 kind of completes the story… the 12 series takes the game on and after so many years of ownership and it being the actual version JC wore on his wrist when he desended into the mariana trench it may have to stay for that reason alone….

The 126660 wears so much better than the 116660 and I'd argue better than a 126600.

The end link to end link on the first gen was substantially bigger on the first gen. The SD 43 is actually a bigger watch on the wrist, than the new DSSD:

Sd43: 53.7 mm
126660: 53.3
116660: 55.6 mm

Keep your 116660 or you'll regret it one day.
It's the original DeepSea, the 126660 is only the soft washed version...

Awesome watch, how long did it take to get the new one (I'm on a waiting list atm)?

Interesting thankyou. I must of tried on the first gen model. My friend had it on and I just thought this is absolutely huge! I’m going to have to check it out again.

Those specs, although appreciated, are a bit deceiving. The DSSD wears substantially thicker and and top heavier, overall it is not an easier watch to wear than an SD43 and of course much bigger difference is felt when going up from a Sub.

I love the heaviness of the deepsea 44mm. I know it’s there on my wrist. Would love to get the James Cameron but didn’t get a chance to

Another factor here is caseback. The SD 43 dug into my wrist making it uncomfortable. D-blue wears flat and is far more comfortable for me.

I suppose it depends on what the wearer defines as comfortable, bubble backs like on a Sub or SD43 never really bothered me, I didn't even notice them until I started reading forums like this. On the other hand, I learned with my experiences that very thick watches do bother me and I tend to not wear them as much. The SD43 or if looking at Omega a Seamaster 300M is as thick as I'd like to go and that's making an exception for the SD43 because it's such a lovely watch. All personal preference of course, but the DSSD IS a very thick watch and I keep hearing about flat casebacks, without having handled the new iteration (I like to reserve judgement until I do) I do see that it still has some sort of a bubble caseback.
