5270J vs 5370P (blue)

Hi all -

Would love your thoughts.

After purchasing a number of the various PP sport models, I am thinking to go counter trend and instead of aiming for more Nautilus or Aquanaut models, to instead begin purchasing more classic pieces.

For my first, I'm torn between the 5270J (yellow gold) vs. the 5370P (blue). If those were the only two choices, which would you do and why?

I could see the 5270J becoming a bit irritating to adjust all the complications every time you stop wearing the watch. But a PC/Chrono is classic PP. And yellow gold is timeless.

Whereas the 5370P is more stealth. Others might not have a clue what you are wearing. And since it only tells time, no problem if you don't wear it for awhile. But on the other hand, it is another blue-dialed watch (have many of these).

Again, if these are the only two, which one and why? I'm hoping to wear this one often.

The 5370P is my grail.

If I had the means to be wearing one I would be. Go for it!

Similar but very different. I would suggest the 5370 is a tier up, it is from the high grand complications department, is double assembled by one of Patek’s best watchmakers and has a grande feu enamel dial in a stunning case - possibly the best piece introduced by Patek in a long time. Patek consider the rattrapante one of their highest complications.

actually i am thinking of 5370P or 5520P. those are watches from the opposite spectrum but both are very interesting. the purist piece and the sporty MR-variant pour les pauvres:::))))

I like your reasoning with regard to the 5270J, probably the route I would go, were my collection in that league.

But I’m not sure you’re going counter trend with that, those who really are in the know, those who sparked the flame of the steel sports model craze to begin with, have been moving on to dressier pieces for a while now.

You won’t go wrong with both tbh. I think 5270J is the quintessential Patek though.

Beautiful wear my 5370P black. Go for the blue it’s stunning. Easy to adjust, stealth as you said and sits great on the wrist. It might be the first and last year of production for the blue as well.
Finally I agree with the comment that people are moving to more dressier watches now I.e Journe, Patek and Lange hype.

Can’t go wrong with either reference. Given choice I’d go 5270P or 5370P black rather than blue. Perhaps also the black version could be good value vs the blue production piece if you find the right offer.

I just bought the 5270p (my first Patek). The manual wind is not annoying IMO. Perpetual calendars are intended to be daily wearers. Functionally, they are not intended to sit in a drawer for random intervals. Some people don’t understand that. I also find that most of the people on forums complaining about a manual wind PCC, don’t actually own one.

It is an absolute pleasure to spend 30 seconds every 60 hours interacting with my beautiful watch. If a 5270 does stop, setting it again is not complicated.

5270 and 5370 are both excellent references to own. No wrong choice here.

5370 all the way. Don’t get a 5270J as it will leave one less available for me:) That’s my answer tongue-in-cheek of course.

Candidly, I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I think it comes down to your overall collection and your collection goals. To have both even in serious consideration is a lucky position, now unlucky part is picking lol.

The 5370P would be my choice because it is a true grand complication. I am not sure about the blue dial and how it looks but that won't deter me from getting it.

on the other hand, a PCC is true patek DNA. and if you look at prvious ref (5970 and 3970) i believe yellow gold is the metal that aged the best. so getting a 5270J is a solid choice for me as well

I love both especially 5270J or P. 5370P is a darling. From your writing it seems like you favor the 5370P which i personally love. One of the forum-ers here seems to enjoy setting up his 5270P anyways. I could see how it would be relaxing rather than irritating. Best wishes. Good problems to have :)

I would go 5270P if you’re looking for a classic Patek PCC and in a special dial color. Winding this amazing watch once or twice a day shouldn’t be a chore. You’ll be staring at it a lot daily I’m sure! Grab it before discontinued and hard to find without paying premium

Personally prefer the 5370P black to the blue. Still seems to be some good prices for the black dial new or as new despite discontinued.
