GMT's a decade apart (late incoming).

Sort of a late incoming.

My 116710 has been almost a daily wear watch for well over a decade (almost 15yrs). Finally, the crown was so dented that I could hardly screw it in/out anymore, so I took it into the AD for it's first service last year. It was REALLY beat up (I had even managed a small gouge in the sapphire), but hey - that's what they are for, right?! New Crown, new crystal, new clasp, overhaul, and polish. I don't care about resale - I just wanted it refreshed a bit. It still shows many battle scars, but the PCL's, lugs and such have been brought back to a nice look. It was my first Rolex celebrating a life achievement so it's not getting sold.

I mentioned to the SA while I was there (the same guy that originally sold me the LN) that I was interested in the new BLNR's. He sorta chuckled and noted the current market conditions along with the likelihood of getting one (Low, but he'd let me when/if they could get one for me). I left and forgot about it.

Fast forward to earlier this year (Feb) and I received a text message from him asking if I'd like to buy one on a Jubilee...so I did. It was a very pleasant surprise. No games, no recent spend history, and no jewelry. The SA noted that they prefer to sell the "hot watches" to folks who appreciate them as well as long term customers. He mentioned they usually can weed out flippers pretty easy.

I think they make a nice pair, don't you?! I now wear it in rotation with the LN. The BLNR/Jubilee is definitely way more bling than the LN/Oyster but really a good looking watch (to me anyway). I know some folks say they are too similar and you only need one, but I'm likely to keep both long term.

funny how you miss it when have your pepsi and sub still what is it you think you miss about it out of curiosity? i ask because im considering moving on mine i got it out the safe the other day and it doesn't fit me any more (need like 3 extra links) so didnt get a chance to wear it.

It's strange actually. I thought at first blush I might hate the Jubilee, because I've been wearing the Oyster on the LN for so many years and it's all I've worn (I also have a Hulk with brushed Oyster). That said, the Jubilee bracelet just feels fantastic (better than the Oyster to me) but the flash/bling has taken me awhile to get used too. I still feel it's a bit showy sometimes, but the comfort of that bracelet makes up for it. Sometimes I think I like it more, but then I throw on my old friend and I still like the Oyster as well. I don't really find myself grabbing one over the other - I like them both for differing reasons and they both get wrist time. FYI, my typical daily wear is jeans or shorts with T-Shirts or Polo/Golf shirts.

I guess for me its a bit nostalgic ... my first ceramic Rolex, and it comemorated a time in my life that's shall we say "memorable" (can't get into details im afraid).

That said, its a fantastic reference in its own right and every time I see one I think I let one get away.
