2021 New Release This or That
Curious for everyone else’s take on new 2021 Daytona RG Metorite vs Code two tone ceramic RG (plus whatever mythical allocation improvement down the road - which I assume is only a very small help on the road for unobtanium watches).
Had a chance to see the Code in NY, photos do do this watch justice IMHO. |

I tried the past versions of the Code 11:59 chronographs, didn't really like it. Prefer the 2 tone looks of the ceramic and gold casing. Maybe anyone in this forum who owns these latest pieces could chime in on their wear, looks and experience! |

So I had a chance to try on in NYC, and it’s really sharp. The black center of the case has a visual illusion effect to make it look slimmer - kind of like what a black dress does visually. You can literally put two codes side by side, and the black center will make the case look thinner.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Rolex is “more watch for the money” with a big block of gold that is a PM bracelet, but against a Patek dress chrono like 5070, I’d take this. (I’d take 5170p over code, but basically most other Patek dress chronos I’d take second to this…actually maybe 5960 is a better comparison stylistically). I really think the big psychological downside is there is ZERO secondary market for the codes. Not even a 20% haircut market beneath for liquidity. And so I think psychologically, that’s hard to get past. I also wonder whether they will limit the production of this watch in line with other uses of ceramic. Eg the ratio of steel RO to ceramic RO. Will this be the same way for TT Code ceramic vs regular Code? If it does, then it makes the dial really special IMHO. |

I’ve been asking but haven’t been able to try the new CE models here in SGP. So what pieces came, have been sold.
Online I see these guys are already discounting.

@sgwatchguy, I don’t think any Code buyer is under an illusion the line won’t lose value once you walk out the door. I do however think after trying on in NYC that the watch is actually very well done. I do wish like Dauster it was 25k, but reasonably I thought 38k would have been the right price point.
Price point aside, I think this watch can make a strong argument as a stand-alone watch in a diverse collection. I also have a chance to try on the full RG Daytona metorite and am surprised to say I was very disappointed in it. Felt more gimmicky than nice. |

My ceramic code doesn’t look out of place in my little collection. |

If I had to pick between the semi-ceramic CODE 11.59 of the Meteorite Daytona, it's no contest for me.
Meteorite Daytona all the way. The CODE may have the nicer movement, but it's not full ceramic (though still quite stunning), and the Meteorite is just an amazing dial in my opinion. |

Apparently not, which is kinda surprising considering this is a good market for AP

Take a 26331ST vs WG Daytona Oysterflex. For me, without any Pm Rolex, I think the Oysterflex is a better value. If I don’t have a full PM Rolex, then I’d take the PM Rolex over the code every time. Basically same price but solid gold bracelet! But after a collection already checks those boxes, then I feel (again personally) the mind starts to wander and consider the code for the first time without worrying about what other piece is a better value and can just appreciate it for what is is. (And still grossly expensive at that!!!) It is no doubt a luxury purchase at this price point to be able to admire something far outside of consensus. A SS Daytona or 5711 this is not. |

Lol yes very true not going to buy one indeed. My point was that’s what I think they should cost. Maybe 30 would be ok.
