PIAGET G0A31114 (38 MM Rose Gold Manual Wind)

I have been looking for a basic dress watch, pref in RG.

I have a smallish wrist (6.5" or maybe a little less).

I have tried on a few watches:

VC Traditionelle
Lange Saxonia Thin 37 mm

Today, I was able to try on the Piaget Altiplano in RG. It is a basic 2 hand watch in RG, 38 mm. I really liked it. I think the 38 mm is perfect for me. The only downside is the lack of a sapphire case back, since it is so thin, and also the power reserve of 43 hours, also due to its thinness.

Enclosed is a stock photo of the watch.

I liked the VC also, but it is about $22.5 with no discount.

I believe I can get a good discount on the Piaget.

My questions:

1. Would you recommend any other basic 2/3 hander dress watch preferably in RG under $25k ? I have seen the Calatrave and don't see anything very special about it, other than the name honestly.

2. Would anyone know a good AD to get the Piaget and what discount I could get ? I see Jomashop is the cheapest at around $10.5k, but I would really like to get it from an AD, even at a somewhat higher price.

3. Would anyone know what sort of discount is possible on the VC from an AD, and if they can recommend someone ?

4. Are there any reasons not to buy the Piaget (service, reliability etc), aside from the resale value ?

Thanks in advance.

I like the watch overall except, I prefer watches with a seconds hand, central or small.

This are my 2 VC’s

A classic dress watch in rose gold from a great brand is timeless, so enjoy the journey.

Piaget makes excellent watches, although I personally prefer the Lange or the VC. I think the Lange has the best movement finishing but I like the VC best for the overall package, especially because it has a sub seconds dial. I think the Piaget is probably in third place for overall quality but it's also the cheapest and it's still a very fine watch. I would place the Calatrava above the Piaget but below VC and Lange but you're paying a lot for the name with Patek.

As for deals, my advice would be to call around to various ADs and see if they will beat, match, or at least come close to reputable grays like Jomashop and Watchmaxx. You should get the most off on the Piaget (I'd aim for 35%) followed by the VC (20% off should be easily doable). The Lange will likely be the toughest to get a deal on these days (maybe 15%). If not, I would have no problem going with Jomashop or Watchmaxx, as I have bought from both and have been very pleased. While I understand the temptation to save money, if you're going to have this for a long time, I'd wait a little longer to get what you really want rather than settle to save a little money.

Thanks for info

I would agree that it is better to pay a bit more to avoid Jomashop and get the 8 year warranty from an AD

I agree about finishing etc, but the Piaget probably looked the beat on my wrist amongst all of them

I've had a number of watches for 15+ years and only have had to service one (and it was a nightmare) so while the 8 year warranty is nice, I don't think it's worth more than $1,000 for a time only watch of this caliber.

If the Piaget looks the best on your wrist and you like it a lot, I'd say go for it.

Thanks !

I will see what I can get from an AD and then decide

But it is the watch that looked best on my wrist

I honestly thought I would appreciate the raised hour markers more on the Lange, but it was the dial design and thin profile of the Piaget that won me over
