Quality of Blancpain sailcloth strap

Only worn it 10 times and the edge is broken already. Is this normal? It's authentic from Blancpain directly in case anyone is wondering

Wow, it’s like you got bored and chewed it off. Never see any strap go like that from normal wear.

I wear mine everyday and the edge broke in two places, so yeah they’re not the most durable and you might’ve been unlucky nicking it somewhere same as I.

Mine frayed at the edge within a few months, happened shortly after I wore it in the ocean
/ pool which may or may not be related.

Thanks for sharing your experience guys. Don't you think it's so unacceptable that a strap with this price can be this fragile? Did you talk to your ad or Blancpain about this?

How does the strap hold up over time after it broke in two places? Does it continue to deteriorate?

That’s a bummer Edward. What does your AD have to say?

Still holds up and works, just ugly in those two places. I think its a result of the outer sailcloth material being so thin that any small nick becomes magnified. They do look good especially in other colours but I've concluded they aren't always hardwearing because of the shortcoming mentioned above and I wish they came out with an OEM rubber strap for real daily wear.

Blancpain doesn't make any money selling watches, they make money selling straps for their watches. I changed out the sailcloth strap on my FF every 2 years until I finally said "enough" and sold the watch. The guy I sold it to had it put on a bracelet which didn't look as good but was, ultimately, a cost saving measure.

That's very sad. Did you talk to the ad or boutique about the situation? I'm going to call the boutique and see what they say.

non of mine do .... does your mil-spec and have you reached out to them ?

The Sailcloth is a bit ropey, I've had 2- mine cracked on both sides where it rubbed against the tang and then at a random spot where it just sort of creased.. Not particularly impressed.
I had an IWC strap on my Top Gun do the same.

Now I use cheap, seemingly indestructible NATOs or leather straps.

Totally unacceptable for a luxury item to fail so quickly. I'd expect an AD to replace this assuming the purchase was recent and hasn't been a safe queen.

I wore mine every day and beat it rather severely. In fairness, the watch itself was impervious to damage or scratches and I wore it for about six years as a personal trainer, so it took some hard knocks. A client of mine kept begging me to sell him the watch and I finally relented, I'm 5' 9' and he's 6' 4" and it looked better on him. I used the funds to buy a more appropriately sized Rolex 16600 Seadweller.

I had problems with the bezel getting sand and grit underneath it and destroying the bezel ratchet resulting in a free turning bezel. Had that repaired twice.
As much as I admired the look of the FF I never considered it fit to be a true dive watch in the manner of a Submariner.

I contacted the boutique I originally bought the strap from and they are going to send me a replacement free of charge. While I appreciate their service, this is giving me a pause in purchasing any Blancpain straps or pieces in the future..

Strange. I've been wearing mine every day for a couple of years now and it looks brand new. Almost no wear on the strap.

Great to hear they made it right for you. I might have to follow suit and call tomorrow as mine is about 6 months old, worn about a dozen times. Granted I may have been a bit more active in water but it is a dive watch after all...

Any sailcloth strap if you catch on something sharp enough will have that issue. I’ve worn my Bathyscaphe as my primary watch for over a year now and have only experienced fairly minor wear and tear but well within what I would expect since I don’t baby it at all. Hope the new strap works out!

Mine didnt last after vacationing water exposure either. I went more affordable aftermarket. I also have had grit and problems with my bezel on now the third time where it finds itself with Blancpain. Ill leave it at that.

No issues with mine. It's actually my favorite watch strap.
